Koni shocks

At that price I would just buy the newer ones. I think the state of the art has advanced a lot since our Konis were designed. I think you can buy a set of single adjustables and newer springs for almost the same price.

I'm kinda screwed because they already fixed them since they wouldn't give a final price until they were done,they just gave a prior estimate.The shocks cost me about 230 bucks prior to rebuild.I am thinking about just letting them have them and later buy new ones?

They should have at least called with a price once they had them apart and knew what parts were needed to rebuild them. I'd write them off and order new shocks from a different manufacturer.

$110 each plus parts, original quote

$900 final bill

$900/4 = $225 per shock

$225 - $110 = $115 parts per shock

So your shocks were rebuilt for $110 labor plus $115 parts per shock, that sounds plausable to me.

Dump those old, heavy Konis and seek light, modern shocks from your favorite vendor.

You can buy new steel KONIS for 1195.00 with the springs and all complete. Call them and get a Manager on the phone and ask him WHAT DA F$%# ????

Agreed with the general advice here. It would be wiser to spend the money on modern gas filled shocks.

The only reason to rebuild the old red body Konis is if you want to give your car an "old school" look, for show purposes. For performance a new shock will be a vast improvement.

Yeah ,I agree they should have e-mailed me a quote if they were going to be so expensive .The shock absorbers weren't even probably bad i just bought them used and sent them to be rebuilt thinking it would be cheaper than buying new ones. Oh,well I guess Im out 300 bucks total and ill wait for some newer type shocks at a good price to appear!Thanks to all
PS: By the way which would set be the best bang for the buck?

You guys can comment on the 'good and bad' of this set up, but I was sorry I missed this offering. At least this is a start.

I’ll drop the spring fee and new total is 815.31. FYI the “new” gas type shocks doesn’t mean they are more efficient, these are very good dampers.

Koni dropped the total to 815.31. I bought the shocks for $230 making the total $1045.31. At this price should I just let them have my old shocks and invest the money in new shocks?.If the “new” gas type shocks gives a improve greatly the ride quality I think this will be best?It seems the shocks from pantera east are the best for the price. Hall pantea has some but what is the brand?thanks for your input!

Don't add the $230 in the total for the Koni shocks unless you also include it in the total for the Pantera East shocks. You paid the $230 and it's gone regardless which direction you go in.

I'd try to get Koni to come down some more.

I dont think the rebuilt your old ones .. I think they threw them out and sent you a set off the shelf.

I rebuilt my shocks with ProParts; the KONI distributor and racing supply here in the West San Fernando Valley (L.A.). These are great; old school and just enough technology for my modified-street-show car.

$300 for the shocks > $729 for the complete rebuild > $ 100 to powdercoat the springs >
$126 to polish all the steel components > $50 for the new poly bushings we pressed in > BRAND NEW OLD SCHOOL KONI's! Total @ $1305 for 4.
