The black Pantera is a Don Byars creation and had previously sold for $200K, so I'm guessing the owner was hoping to make a profit!
I found it interesting that the high bids were on modified Pantera's whereas in past years the stock Pantera's have outperformed modified.

The auction was on in my shop the other night when one of the Pantera's was going across.
I learned a lot from the Mecum Auctioneers! Did you know that:
Each of the Pantera's came with different electrical systems and everyone has to replace the whole electrical system to get them to work.
They all over heat so in order to make one run you have to completely revamp the entire cooling system on any of the cars to make them drive.
Also, up until the last year or two, almost all Pantera's were original expect fixing the electrical and cooling system. The last year or two is the first time people began to restomod these cars! Since they never ran anyway it's a good option!
The Mecum announcers are the most uneducated group of car guys I have ever seen and it's this way with ALL MAKES!
I can't watch the auction with the volume up!
