I have the same fans on my 74, and the shroud on the top as a slight ridge in it to accept clearance for the fans. (Although the fans must be adjusted at just right distance under the shroud to fit). My fans are about 1/4 to 1/2 inch away from the radiator. This set up came with the car, and it originally had the Phoenix radiator in it, so I suspect it may have came from Hall. If you want, post your email and I will take a photo & send it to you.
Marlin's advice is good. In addition, I suggest you be very sure the fans rotate such that they both blow air in the right direction, and that they both turn at more-or-less the same speed. On some cars, the voltage out of the fan relays is not high enough to allow big, powerful fan motors to spin at their rated speed. If you have any doubts, rig a jumper cable directly from the battery posts to a fan; if it seems to spin faster or make more noise, your electrical hookup needs attention.
Hi Marlin...Finally found time to install the fans! They work great! Now what do I need to do to have the motor shut off with the key?...Curt

LOOK CLOSELY! IF YOU PURCHASED THE FAN MOTORS AND BLADES FROM "HALL", AS I DID, THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE THE EIGHT BLADED FANS WITH ALL OF THE BLADES CONNECTED WITH A "RING" AROUND THEM! THIS IS YOUR "BUILT-IN" SHROUD!! YOUR OLD SHROUDS ARE NOT TO BE USED! THIS MAKES FOR A MUCH CLEANER LOOKING INSTALLATION. MY FAN BLADES ALSO, JUST BEARLY CLEAR THE RADIATER, ABOUT 3/16", BUT THEY NEVER RUB. JUST BE SURE TO TIGHTEN THE MOUNTS UP,(YOU MAY NEED TO SHIM THEM)PROPERLY, WHEN ALIGNED. ONE MORE POINT I FOUND!!- THE LITTLE SET SCREWS THAT SECURE THE BLADES TO THE MOTOR SHAFT, YOU CAN NOT GET THEM TIGHT ENOUGH TO KEEP THEM FROM SLIPPING ON THE SHAFT!(EVEN WITH THE "FLAT" GROUND ONTO THE SHAFT). I TOOK OUT THE SET SCREWS AND REPLACED THEM WITH A SHORT ALLEN HEAD BOLT! THIS ALLOWS YOU TO USE OF A LARGER ALLEN WRENCH, THEREFORE YOU CAN TORQUE THEM MUCH TIGHTER. I HAVE NOT HAD THEM COME LOOSE YET! GOOD-LUCK WITH IT, MARLIN.
