I would not have thought that was the same car, but you could be right as both were driven by the same team and seem to have references to chassis number 001. It was (they were?) driven by Carlo Pietromarchi and Maurizio Micangeli in Group5 back in the late 1970's in many races. Perhaps you would have luck if you contact the person who took this photo: Umberto Cattani (umbcat-AT-tin.it)

The car you are seeking information about was originally raced in Group 5 livery (1977 - 1980), with all the vents in the body work, and the yellow/brown paint. The car no longer looks like that. It was modified in 1981 to race in Group C.

The Pantera in question was purchased by David and Linda Adler in its final, Group C, livery a few years ago. They restored the car, showed it at the 2007 Concorso Italiano and then put it up for sale. It is still listed for sale on the PI Motorsports website.

This Pantera has no chassis number, it was built in 1977 upon a spare chassis acquired directly from the factory. Philippe Olczyk gave it a chassis number 001 in his book "DeTomaso Macchine da Corsa" page 436.

All I can say is wow .... That is a fine example of Pantera Racing History ... a great find .... boy would I like to see some pics of the motor and chasis ... best of Luck Dave and Linda and thanks for preserving this piece of History ... it could have ended up like the other burned up, rusted up chasis that often show up on EBAY month after month.

Ron
This is not the burned out car that was on Ebay. I think that one may have been the Kleinpeter car, which was originally a stock '71 car heavily modified by privateer Kleinpeter.

I talked to Dave at Concurso '07 and he was saying his factory GRP5/C car sat at Auto Elite in Modena for 20 yrs, he had a hell of a time negotiating to buy it and then a bunch of hurdles to get it into the US.

Dave also has Whiplash, which I think I'm right in saying was a GRP3 car modified to GRP5 spec.

FWIW Patrick Hals in Belgium owns the 'Candy' car now and at least one other Factory Group 4 car. He hangs out on the De Toamso e-mail list and might be a good resource for information.

If you don't have a copy Philippe Olczyk's book De Tomaso "Macchina da Corsa" is a must for historic racing information and photos. George sells it through the PI bookstore.

FUNNY, ive looked alot at those and didnt acctually see it until i read the comment above the picture.. but no doubt, it will be the longtail.. hmm or some doubt, damn, thats a dilemma
Moffi,

Instead of building your own REPLICA of Pantera #001, why not own the real thing, why not purchase Pantera #001 from the Adlers? Its the real car, the car in the pictures. Fully restored. I'm sure you could purchase this car for less money than it would cost to duplicate it.

Then all you need to do is duplicate the original body work. If you make inquiries with the right sources in Italy, the original bodywork may still be laying around somewhere.

i did in fact have a talk with him, and instead of telling again, il just post the mails, i have my reasons you see Wink

OK, that makes sense. I don't have a source for measurements on the 5 car, I am sorry.
You may want to contact Rene Killer in Switzerland because he is a historian and may have that data. He also has models of the car. His email is shown above.
My race car has a standard Pantera chassis under it. I would sell it to you for $200,000 USD. Thank you, Dave

i acctually would have bought yours and rebuilt it no doubt, only one major glitch with it, i cant get it registerd in norway(wierd crappy laws)
so i have to imort a car close to standard/original and have that approved, then search to rebuild it at the dmv, then there are two firms dmv and some random company to check if the build is within reason etc... taking forever... and the build is quite nice priced, 100.00-130.0000$ and thats with leather and carbon interior and 1200hp without blowers or nos.. and the tax laws make buing an expensive car ALOT more expensive, so yours would (if i could get it registerd) cost around 400.000+$ with our stupid laws and taxes..

would you happen to know who might have some measures of it? theres been build a couple of model cars of it, and im guessing they got it from somewhere...

Hi Tor,
No, I have no measurements of the Gruppo 5 Pantera. The excellent book on Pantera race cars by Phillipe Olcyzk has a nice selection of photos of the car. I recommend you purchase that book. It a fantastic read.
Rather than spend a lot of money on a replica, please consider purchasing my car and have the real thing. You could rebody as the Gr.5 or race it as the Group C and be eligible for vintage racing anywhere in the world plus have a very rare and valuable DeTomaso.
I will make you a special price.
Dave Adler

i was just woundering if you have any pictures of it in its previous look...
with the vents on the hood etc.. and if you happen to have the measures etc?

im going for a replica of that car and planning on hitting 330km/h with it so any answer would help me in the right way.
