Is it "normal" to see the pushrods being slightly "shaved" against the pushrod guides?... I only have about thirty minutes on this engine??.. I guess I should pull the cover and take a photo so you guys can see it...

I'm not using guideplates, so I haven't followed previous discussions closely.
But I do recall some talk about guideplates that were not properly spaced and they were 'fixed' by cutting, adjusting, and rewelding.
In any case, you surely do have a problem that needs addressing.

Wrong push rods... Need chrome moly hardend...
Yup, you need hardened pushrods.
Larry's correct - my car had guideplates that weren't quite right and needed to be cut apart and re-welded. But in any case, guideplates require the use of hardened pushrods.
At least you saw it now and not on the side of the road with bent pushrods...

HI. At this point i would be more concered about
what damage these shavings may have caused to the engine [ crankshaft / bearings etc. ] all these shavings floating around thru the oiling system is not a good thing. Will need a GOOD cleaning out possibly engine removal and hot tank to get them all out. Just changing the oil is not going to get them all out of the system. Also in the picture
is that oil in the bottom of the head? Almost looks like anti freeze.

Thats Brad Penn oil, good stuff 
, it normally looks like that. Of course I was a bit upset seeing those pushrods shedding all that material. I have about 40 minutes max on this engine so I intend to change the oil, install a decent magnet system on the pan and filter and hope for the best.

You didn't say anything about correcting the pushrod problem but we assume that will happen before you change oil and restart the engine.

Agreed it's great stuff, contains 1500 ppm Zinc and 1340-1400 of phosporous.

We have decided the only prudent action is to pull it and check the bearings....

I buy it at a local dist. I guess you can call around and see if some one close can order it in for you... Check speed/machine shops for a connection...
I found the master distributor for Michigan and Im going to call them in the morning.
Just a note, in researching Brad Penns oil I found several posts on BMW and Opel forums saying the Brad Penn oil is the old Kendall GT oil. I have had first hand usage of this oil and I loved it when Kendall made it.
