Someone please guide me through the proper method of removing the rear view mirror so I do not brake it.

Not sure which one you have - but mine works as follows:
1) Look for a small allen head screw which holds the mirror base to the glass mounted plate.
2) Loosen this screw then slide the mirror up and away from the mount.

Inside Rear View??? is attached to a 3 screw Mounting plate but you can not see
the screws Use some soapy water in a squirt bottle spray in the crack between the
mounting plate and the mirror use the old indian flat blade screwdriver trick to get the
two areas separated and the mirror should pop off from the 3 spring clips that hold it
then remove the mounting plate screws...(work screw driver slow and easy from the
back side and be ready to catch the mirror!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that it's a 72 pre-L model.
Thank you gentlemen. The mirrer came off like a snap. By the way on my 72 the mirror was attached as RoBeRt stated.
