I made the mistake of installing my windshield with out first putting the stainless trim into the rubber gasket. Now I have to pull it out and install it again the right way. I almost had a heart attack several times while installing it and I really don't want to go through it again. Can anyone recommend a glass shop in the NYC area that can be trusted with the job?

Thanks,
Eric

I think the ss trim does go in AFTER the glass is installed. The flap that touches the body needs to be lifted up and clear RTV squirted in to seal off the cavity inside. Driving in rain will force moisture under, resulting in rust. The whole bottom, both sides and about a foot across the top on each side need this on every Pantera I've ever seen, or water intrusion will ultimately cause problems. The RTV cannot be inserted with the trim in place. The s-shaped insert that protrudes into the rubber gasket can easily be pushed in if you use a silicone lubricant on it before trying to insert the pieces. Also, for those who want blacked-out trim, why bother to install the trim at all? The gasket is already flat black & from 5 ft away, looks stock. I chose to put the trim on the shelf rather than spend money to duplicate the color of the gasket.
Been there, tried that. The trim won't go in along the full length of the piece no matter what I lube it with, no way, no how.
I like the chrome look of the original trim, and the windshield looks a little incongruous with out it. I used black strip caulk on both the body side and the glass side of the gasket so I don't anticipate any leaks, however I suppose you're right about wanting to prevent water from laying between the gasket and the body.
Do you know of a glass shop near me that I could trust with my $750 windshield?

Eric
