Ring Gear Safety Wire

You need to remove the bottom cover out of the car.

Make sure you check !!!!
I am rebuilding my GT5 and decided to check while the ZF was out of the car. I found all 10 of the bolt heads laying on the bottom. All had been sheered off. Lucky for me, nothing was hurt.
A 60.00 fix just saved me thousands.

One other question - Are the bolt heads already drilled or do I need to buy a set of drilled bolts?

The vendors that sell the safety wire option kit include the pre-drilled bolts and wire along with a new gasket. I purchased mine from Pantera East (Marino down in Tampa) and got all of that and I would suspect the other vendors do the same. Not that expensive..

You have a choice with ring gear bolts:
You can buy the cheap one's with the washer under the head or you buy expensive one's that are of the highest quality but are over twice the price. When you are building a ZF it's worth the extra $$ to do the job right the first time.

Is it possible to wire the ring gear with the transmission still in the car if it is on a lift?

I know some guys do it but the lock wire looks like ($#!+)and it's a big pain!!
The best way is to pull the box, you can also check the clutch and throw-out bearing.
