do the later model panteras like mid to late 80s have the same rust problems, or has more rust prevention gone into these models.

I can only speak for the UK cars but they aint rusty cos they are rarely driven in wet conditions. These cars were originally rich mens toys so they weren't used much and they were kept garaged. My 1989 car still has the original Dinitrol rust proofing in all areas and is totally rust free. If you find a high mileage car that has been driven in the Northern US or Europe it will be as rusty as any other high mileage car. My car when new cost $100,000 (double the list price) so was rarely driven, brought out on Sundays to be polished and that was about it.
