Do ya think this is a good reason to replace your original rubber brake lines?
I could not believe it but as I removed them I could actually see where the rubber interior hose has deteriorated to the point of falling apart and being pushed in toward the caliper.
Other than some tire rubbing abrasions on the outside of the hose, there was no leaks or signs of this deterioration. I have always read that old lines deteriorate and should be replaced and have done so many times, just never seen this type of evidence.

When I rebuilt my front calipers, behind the pistons of the inboard halves (where the lines connect) there was about a teaspoon of, for the lack of a better word, sludge. I should have posted pictures. Since I am reasonably sure the calipers had not been apart since 1972 I would bet that it was old rubber brake line material. Rebuild your calipers people, for 50 bucks it changes your world. For example, my O-rings that seal the two halves had hardened and thus leaked.....ever so slightly. However, rebuilding is not for the faint of heart, good tools are a must, and it is time consuming. A much less painful solution is the SAAC restoration kit. If I knew then what I know now I would have went this route. After I figure my time and tools the cost were about even.

Hi JFB, that's just it. You can pay $50 for the kit and DIY, or pay this guy $550.....plus shshipping......plus the $100 for S.S. lines, so let's just call it $700. Well for just a bit more might as well get the SAAC system.
As for ever doing it again? Honestly yeah I would since I now know ALL of the tricks. What is it worth to me today? I would rebuild a front pair for $300 unpainted. If anything I aquired some great tools along the way.
I tried the rebuild route. Its really pretty easy. My dad and I have been successful in rebuilding the front calipers for the Bora. (same calipers except the rubber parts are made for LHM not DOT4) For the Pantera we tried rebuilding them and they leaked. I attribute it to inferior rebuild kits. To make a long story short I decided that the SACC four wheel kit for stock rotors was a good upgrade and the parts are new so no leaks. Best $900 or so I have spent on the car.
