I couldn't find a suitable pic but I always get a bit weak in the knees when I see a Jaguar E-type serie 1 conv. Preferably in a very classic combo of red over black leather.
Other than that I would say that my shortlist changes almost as often as I change my shorts.
There are just too many good looking and performing cars out there.

George, you always come up trumps! And I'm not even gonna comment that its a series 2! Just kidding.
What do you say about the Bugatti Veyron? This thing puts the word supercar in a whole new dimension I think. In the end it is VW way of setting new boundries considering that they admit to the fact it costs them close to € 5.000.000 to build just one!
Anorak facts: Production has been upped from 50 to 70 a year because of increased sales. As of April 1st they marked up the price with € 100.000 pre taxes. No joke...
Flat out it will use a full tank of 120 liters in 12 minutes!!
Not to be argumentative DT or a know it all, but the Mark IV, I am quite sure is a single 4v tunnel port.
2/4's ain't no good for road racing, that's Saturday night at the drive in stuff.
The Gurney hump is in the Mark II, the black car I believe.
Mark IV's competed under the same rule making them a "40" but they really aren't. The chassis is all aluminum, welded piece by piece. The GT40's a a steel shell.
The Mark IV's don't use a ZF either. They have there own transaxle using Ford "top loader" internals.
But yea, it is high on the list of anyone who has ever seen one. It is arguably the first "super-car".
It ended because it was heavier and no faster the Mark II's and because of the "J" car appendix.
That's the car Ken Miles got killed testing.
I like a lot of cars. from the 69/70 Mustangs to the old Austin Martins. The 69/70 Mustangs were the only Mustangs that ever apealed to me.

To dream a little more would be the Jaguar XJ13:

The only option would be in kit form but still a neat car. I think to do cars like this it would have to be the only car you do (unless youw ere Jay Leno). That's what makes car show great.

Gary
Doug I know for certain that at least the red number one car did indeed have two small four barrels that resided in a turkey pan that sealed to the top glass. The turkey pan had a tube coming from each side to the air inlet duct on the rear fenders. I know it was not the ultimate car, I liked the way it looked and it was well put together. I know because I built a model kit of that car, and have loved it ever since. :P

But here is a link that backs up what I am saying...

DeTom, below is a pick of the GT40 mk II that placed 3rd at LeMans in 1966, being prepped for historic racing. Below, a smaller pic of Lee Holman standing next to the car.The dual four barrel carbs are clearly visible in both pics

Ohhh Yeah George. That's the stuff. When I win this Saturdays lottery I am going to go right up to emerson fitzpaldi and buy his car off of him. Or Carrol Shelby, or maybe go to the Ford museum. I will have that car. Muwahahaahaha!
But the Lancia is pretty and it does pretty good off road. Well rough roads anyway. Imagine that puppy on dirt mountain roads, blasting up pikes peak. Talk about living on the edge. Big Grin
Detom, 2 burst then dive like hell. They lost a couple in the begining due to the landing gear. They had a dolley that they would drop after take off. Turns out they needed to gain a bit of altitude before dropping the wheels. At low altitude the wheels were bouncing up and knocking the airplanes out of the sky! Several died just fueling the plane. When the pilots lit them off, everyone else ran. They never knew if it was going to launch or explode. Sounds like a job for Super Dave Ozbourne!

Germany had a lot of interesting aircraft. They were prohibited from making bombers but they made transports (that were quickly converted).

They had a lot of aero type programs for kids before WWII. Kind of like the 4H stuff. It developed a lot of open thinking to aviation and created a wide variety of bizar and unique aircraft. The ME 262 was slated as a fighter and Hitler wanted them to change the design and make it a bomber. By the time they got the 262 re-configured as a fighter they had lost a lot of time and the war was almost over. If they had gotten the 262 out earlier they could have put a real hurt on us.

Sorry back to favorite "other car"
Heck Gary, even the way it was they put the hurt on us. More so the russians. They lost like sixteen million folks. Heck that is more than all the people of New York city put together. We caught some lucky breaks, but mostly, good is better than evil and will win out in the long run. I liked Roy Rogers too. He set a good example for me as a kid.

Germany started preparing for WWII at the end of WWI. If Germany had regain air superiority it may have had a different ending!
Not too long ago I used to have a Mini Cooper, a real one not a BMW. For me that was a perfect starter classic. Racing green metallic with a white roof. I fitted it with a stage one kit and some other goodies it gave 90 BHP on the roling road, which was plenty for a 1300 LBS car.
That thing handeled like a go kart and sounded nasty with the straight trough exhaust. Everytime I started her up it would almost rattle the windows out of my garage!

Another one I have fond memories of was my 1970 Chevy Caprice. It was a 4 door hardtop with a 400 small block. That thing was bone stock but it shure did go with that 400 block!
That was back in the early nineties when I lived in Michigan and in CA. A dollar a gallon and not a care in the world!
Josh, About the 64 Corvette. i painted it and replaced the top, rebuilt the suspension. When the car got over 70 mph....it lifted off the ground and got light in the front, miserable to drive. I lowered it and added a spoiler. Still a dog to drive. No a/c Great to look at. I'll take the Pantera any day on rails!

I,like LPB, dumped a Corvette ('62 Red on Red with optional hardtop)in order to get my P-car. It certainly was a classic but rode & handled like a truck & reminded me too much of a kit car the way it was built. Couldn't take it on our local roadcourse since it didn't have a roll bar & lousey drum brakes. P-car is 1000% better!

Okay, I am new here so it will take a little time for me to learn things. My favorite car(s)? I like old classics. My first car at 16 was a '64 1/2 289-Auto Mustang w/factory AC...it may always be my fav just because it was the first. Now I drive a '98 Mustang GT 4.6L-Manual, '95 Cobra Wheels, lowered, new chip and misc. other toys. My son has a '03 Cobra that rocks! It runs 12's in the 1/4 and I just love the power! Fast and Ford...that covers my favorite!
Welcome to the forum Mr. Bliss. You might want to mention to your son that Ford just announced a recall on 03 Cobras. Something to do with gas pedals getting caught in the carpet and getting stuck full open throttle. I think you can go to the Ford website to see about that recall.
Okay, maybe I should mention...it isn't Mr. or Bliss anymore for that matter. Just Jennifer works!! Yes, I will tell him about that recall. That could definitely be a problem.

I guess that the assumption of a member here being male makes sense. I fell in love with Pantera's when I was in college. I was out looking for my graduation present from my husband and drove a '73...all I could say was WOW! Unfortunately he didn't agree...could be the reason he's an ex-husband!!!!

Welcome abord Jennifer,do you still drive a pantera.A womens perspective would be much welcomed in this forum.Just ask George.
George, great topic
My dream car has always been a Ferrari Dino. I almost bought one in Hermosa Beach in 1982, but I thought $21,000 was more than I could afford. I should have taken a second mortgage on my house. Who knew that 5 years later they would be selling for $120,000 in the late 80's collector car bubble.

Just beautiful.
Yes sir, the Italians do get it right hey,.... especially for me the backsides .....I mean the first time I saw the rear of any of the DeTomaso's from the Vallelunga, Goose & Pantera I was capitivated. They were just perfect.
And the Alfa Sprint Special,,,,,,that pretty bodyshape could cut thru the air very effectively, managing well over the Ton from a tiny 1300cc gem of an all ally twin-cam four-banger......

RON McCALL : You are building a FORD GT 40 ? A brave man indeed. It must be one of the most difficult to build right.....But very worth while....At what stage are you at on the build ? Plse share with us,,,,,
I enjoyed one emensily here in South Africa where they build some very nice GT 40's. ( Also all the new NOBLE's ) I owned one for 7 years, driving it virtually dailly (A/C) here around Johannesburg, plenty track-time on week-ends, took it to Germany for 2x years then back to S.A. ---- Loved the car.
RON : To see/download fun FORD GT40 footage racing down mountain pass in new music-video, shot from remote-controlled, miniture Jet Turbine hellicoppter, go to "WHEELNUTS" temporary page :

www.wheelnuts.ivanonline.net

"The Making Of" the music-video will be up asap....plus much more......later

Cheers....

Doug, I's jus pullin yer leg! (Well, maybe I was being a little serious since I have a white car.) %^))

But you're right about red cars. I think the Ferrari guys have a cute term for the cost differential of non-red ferraris compared to red ones.

Now that you've brought it up, German cars need to be silver, except for early 911's which were supposed to be Guards Red; and British cars are BRG, of course, except for E Types which look great in red. I don't identify color with American or Japanese cars, however.

I saw one of these on the road last week. I didn't know what it was. I still don't.

Doug, it's a British (designed)/S African (manufactured) two seater with, believe it or not a twin turbo Mondeo engine in it. Exceedingly fast and stucks to the road like glue... Popular with petrolheads in the UK.

Not as good as a TVR, of course... Wink
i'm from wisc.and you think boonies, bad winters and salty roads but we had the largest collection of daytona coups,427,289,cobra's plus the gt-40 that won lemans plus 2 of the 7 only cuda hemi converts.plus a factory altered 65 dodge racecar found in a barn,i got a ride in a 67 merc. comet 202 427 duel quad,r-code with 19 miles on it.a 66 ford galixe factory427 duel quad car, numeroue bosses, shelby's,hemi's and 440.all within a 30 mile radis of my house, plus i have a 69 428cj cougar plainjane-102 made,my boy has a 69 hemi roadrunner 4spd.-356 made, you never know what you'll see coming at ya or going around ya.but i've always wanted a gt-40 and the pantera is about as close as i'll come, hopefully it will be my first exoctic, will know by end of week, money in hand, and you great guys there to help me through all the problems of owning an exoctic.speedo goes to 200 mph,i can't wait, how many of you have done 200 in yours and whats it like.it's gotta be a super rush,i'd love to here the stories or your opions.thanks much;les.i've done 150 but never 200.

And you won't do it in a Pantera either. Wink

Unless you first go through the entire car for TOTAL roadworthy, change your 4:22 to something higher, and probably swap your fifth gear, too. Then, if you have enough HP, you can see 200.

But I think you'll be quite happy with the 150-160 you can get from a stocker.

Larry
I believe there has been more than one Pantera that has exceeded 200 mph at Bonneville. The only Pantera that I'm aware of that has exceeded 200 on pavement is Junior Wilson's. I'm pretty sure he accomplished that at the Silver State and perhaps elsewhere. Dennis Antenucci on the other list could probably tell you.
