As a long time Pantera owner, I guess there is not enough pain in my life and I was thinking of purchasing a Mangusta to use as an occasional driver (3-5K miles/year). Are there certain problem areas that I should be careful of?

I have heard that chassis flex and heim joints can be problems. Are there good fixes for these? Can the air conditioning be tweaked enough to really cool the car in 90 degree summer heat? Are there any mods that would allow a wider window opening when the windows are down?

Thanks for any technical information or tips on good cars that are for sale.

The chassis flex are from the chassis design. It's a spine chassis that is just stretched too long. I would guess that with the proper bracing, just about any chassis can be stiffened. I believe Dave Adler mentioned that the "Fox Mangusta" has major frame modifications
I've never heard of the heim joints being a problem other than expensive to replace and road shock that transfers through them.
Besides the flexibilty in the chassis (that was derived from the lightweight DeTomaso Sports 2000 racer), the handling will be totally different from your Pantera. There are possible issues with the brakes (all Euro calipers use nickel-plated mild steel pistons that can corrode and leak if the fluid is not changed yearly), plus two or three different possible brake calipers on both ends, three different configurations of front a-arms to address a cracking issue around the front lower ball joints, issues with the e-brake assembly, rubber boots required on the chassis heim-joints along with yearly hand-lubrication, and a host of other details totally unfamiliar to Pantera owners. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, fine -the 'Goose will keep you occupied! Recent lottery winners will also be OK.
