I am beginning to lose hope in my turn signals. What seemed like it should be a relatively minor issue is looking more like the search for the holy grail of blinkerdom.
Basically, I have been restoring this beast for quite a while I am not sure when the last time the signals were used (probably early 80s).
So far I have replaced the hazard flasher, all bulbs, checked/cleaned/secured the grounds and replaced the fuses. When I select the right turn signal, I have a flashing rear turn signal and no front turn signal. If I select the left turn signal I get nothing but all lights blinking a little due to what looks like electrical draw. The dash indicator is working and I hear the flasher working.
Does anyone have any ideas???

I loath electrical gremlins!

First use a test light on the right front. If you have current try another bulb. Even when bulbs look OK they can still be bad. Make sure that you are using the correct series bulb for each light. Clean the contacts of the bulb sockets. Make sure each contact is clean with no corrosion.
Beyond this I defer to our Pantera experts.
Good luck.

I agree with what 4134 said.
I know you checked all your grounds but that is the most common cause of turnsignal voodoo.
I worked on a car that had a similar problem and I had to re do the tail light grounds. The lights would go on dim but not flash etc.The rear grounds were hooked to the studs and because of paint, primer etc it wouldn't work. I used a jumper wire from the stud to the ZF ground strap and they worked. Then it was a matter of sanding inside the light opening to get the ground to work.
I assume you are using the correct Euro bulbs in the tail lights?
Like 4134 said check power with a test light and if you are getting power in the correct places it is a ground issue.
May the Force be with you.
Check your reverse light switch mounted on the ZF. I had some of the same problems as you, without the trans being in reverse. On my broken switch the return spring was broken, a contact was broke and the plunger was stuck gunked up by 34 year old grease. Disconnect the two wires to the switch to see if that cures your problem. Chuck

As you know, that little puppy has about a gazillion wires to it. If you mess up with just two of them, all sorts of things go all to hell.

Is there ANY chance wires were messed up during replacement? Have you looked at it recently? Anything loose, shorting out with anything?

Flashers are cheap - replace yours?

Try swapping your front signal/rear taillight units. Unmount them and move them into the various combinations.

That is - Keep the left rear hooked up but put the right front on the left front wires and see what happens when signaling left? When signaling right? Then swap the right rear into the left rear wiring....etc, etc. You'll have to run a bunch of combinations, but you get my point.

Make a chart of the combinations and keep notes.

You'll have to run some ground jumpers with them dangling unmounted. See if your results remain the same with the left/right signal selection or if your problems follow the light units. That will show you if your problems are in the light units or the wiring.

Make sure you are using PROVEN good bulbs (NOT just new), and watch the dual filament rear signal bulbs to make sure BOTH filaments in each bulb are good before running your testing.

Good luck,

Larry

This same problem happened to me when I changed my taillight buckets. It was the ground at the bucket stud. A little scraping of paint did the trick.

How's the car coming along otherwise? Do you have a timeframe on when it might be complete?

Thanks guys for all the input! I checked it out a bit last night and found a couple of things. I should have mentioned that I replaced the rear harness with a new one from one of the vendors. One of the issues was that the wire feeding the turn signal did not match the connecting wire in the plug. That was fun. That took care of the rear blinker issue. Checked for current at the right and left front turn signals. Sure enough, the dirver's side turn signal had a bad ground!! Thanks a lot guys! Even though I cleaned the contact point, the ground was still bad due to a break in the wire that I missed.
