While setting the lifter pre load for my Comp Cams hydraulic roller cam and roller rockers with screw in studs, I was doing good till I got to a lifter that doesn't feel like the others. The first seven lifters all had some light spring action that made adjustment seem logical? The eighth one has no spring action, so it doesn't adjust like the others. Is this what they call a pumped up lifter? If so, does it need to be replaced? It seems like this might keep the valve from closing or worse yet, valve to piston contact?

Lifters only pump up at high rpm. When the engine is not running, they should slowly bleed off. If it does not, then it could be blocked and in need of cleaning or replacement.

By the way, the best way to adjust hydraulic lifters is to loosen them completely, then as you tighten, spin the pushrod. Once it has resistance to turning, go another 3/4 turn.
