The original ammeter is considered by many to be a fire hazard.

There is a replacement unit available from most of the vendors that fixes the problem.

Don't use the original one.

Amen to that, burned up two original ones before i bought one from Hall and no problem ever since

here are photos.

Sorry about the quality. I can email the orignals for a closer view. I delete my ammeter and went with a voltage meter. Must safer and reliable route to go.

Is the replacement unit in the same style so it will match the rest of the gauges? I have noticed that some people uses a voltmeter instead, anyone who knows where to find a voltmeter in the same style (chrome bezel, black face with green text)?

i used a autometer, chrome bezel, black face but red letters and pointer. Could not find any gauges with the green lettering.

I ended up changing all the gauges (voltage, oil pressure and water temp to autometer). The original guages and senders are noted for being inaccurate.
