Espen, the main bodies are usually zinc die-castings. You'll have to completely strip the carb first. They can be welded but only by a true expert welder, as zinc vaporizes very close to its melting temp and that causes bubbles and pits in the repair. Structurally it doesn't hurt much but cosmetically it looks bad. Uneven heating of the casting can also distort the body so the bolt-on stuff no longer fits and the carb may suck air where its not supposed to. I'd try bolting the parts solidly to a steel plate, to hold it in position and prevent warping. Good luck & let us know how it turns out.
