Cool thanks George ... those are steel right ... with the little gasket between the body and bumper ? Was black the option and what about chrome ?

The earliest Panteras (push button & Pre-L), built through July '72, used little front bumpers that included a housing for the turn signal lense. These were plated in chrome.
Later Panteras, built after July '72, had turn signal pods integral to the front valence. The front bumpers for these cars were either the big black bumper of the US "L model" or the little eyebow of the Euro Panteras. As far as I am aware, these were all black, as they came from the factory. Reproductions of these little eyebrow bumpers are available from certain vendors, I've seen the repros in black, carbon fiber and chrome.
Similarly, the pushbutton & Pre-L rear bumper was the very thin chrome bumper; when the US cars went to the one piece steel rear bumper, the Euro cars went to the thicker 2 piece bumper, like the one in the picture above. As far as I know, these were delivered from the factory only in black.
I certainly haven't seen every Euro Pantera, these are just my impressions as far as I can recall, it would be helpful if Charlie, Franz or Roland would chime in and verify this, or tell me I'm full of "it".

I have seen this plug before on a car of the same vintage. It just seemed to make since that the factory would would decide where the car was going after the paint was dry and they would slap in a flat black plug. That along with my detomaso dash script, 300k Speedometer and Euro rear amber lens all seemed to add up. If somebody knows the real story I would love to hear it.

I've seen the chrome mini bumpers in deTomaso "ad literature", but never before on a "real" car. Very interesting. Perhaps found on the Euro L models, produced from August 1972 to July or August of 1974.
How about a pic of the rear bumper? I've never seen a chrome one piece before.

I'm not sure that the "HOLE" theory applies to my 79 ... the holes on mine sure look like a pair of tin snips made them and mine was not destine for the US from day one .. it was prepped to be sold at a dealer in Milano .. then in 85 it went to the US. Those bumpers look to much like a mid 70's car.... big bumpers.
To add further confusion my December '72 UK model has the same chrome front bumpers as Design-Jedi's car but I'm pretty certain there is no rubber plug.
The rear is one piece chrome item.
They may not be original as I have bills from the offical UK De Tomaso dealer for replacement bumpers.

It doesn't Ron. Ignore everything written about '72 through '74 (Ford era) Euro Panteras. It does not apply to your '79.

I think I have seen pictures of early UK cars with the large rear bumper, I'll have a look at my collection of DTDC magazines. The factory parts book I have only shows the small bumpers. But it's definately a genuine factory part, it comes from the official UK dealer, the same as the parts book.
I'm fixing my driver's side window gearbox tonight with one of Roland's aluminium gears - so I'll also check to see if I have a rubber plug under the front bumper while I'm in the garage.
Maybe I'll get some less blurry pictures too.

Ok so I have the bumper part down .. what about the rear black deck ??? it appears the red one in the pic .. George is only painted in the center and mine is painted entirly ... mine was painted a metalic black and you can see the imprint of PANTERA GTS on the deck lid ??

I wonder how many Euro Panteras had bumpers like these installed?

Well guys, DJ's car, #4488 has holes in the front for the L bumper, but they have been plugged. 524 cars later, Derek's Pantera # 5012 doesn't have the holes. I guess the factory figured the plugged holes looked wrong, & decided to wait until they knew where the cars destination was before they cut the holes.
Will you go along with that?

Roland do you have a set of front and rear stock 79GTS bumpers for 9138 ??? and maybe a picture of what they look like.
Oh and those solid steel brackets on those chrome bumpers didnt fly when getting thru US emissions they had to be impact absorbers . I will take close ups of 9138 I think another form of brackets were used .. when I looked at them they appeared to look different from 6476.

I have no history on my car but I wish I did given it's unique characteristics. The car has been in storage for what appears to be most of it's life. However it is need of a restoration and I hope to start disassembly soon.
