I have a 72 with a performer intake and Holley 600 performer series sitting on top. Other than a set of aftermarket headers and electronic Mallory ignition those are the only mods. I have tried everything and it stil runs rich (white smoke) usually pretty bad if it has sat a while and then when I start it up ..look out - tons of white smoke. It will burn your eyes out. I have a freind that wants to change the jets in it and says that that will solve the problem., Any ideas? THanks in advance

Check your PCV valve. If its defective or installed wrong (or the engine is over-revved), it will suck oil from the heads into the intake. Of if one of the two small oil drainback holes in each head get plugged with something, oil fills the rockers up and even a good PCV will make an engine blow max-smoke. Oil smoke is normally light blue, but beyond a certain amount, it will look white. Another less common smoke-generator is a ruptured power brake diaphragm. A small hole will suck oil into the power brake, then back into the intake. Temporarily disconnecting all the vacuum lines should diagnose the problem but be very careful if you drive the car with the power brake disconnected!
I had a Holley 600 on the car. I have gone through three now. I decided to try a different brand name because somehow eventually after I drive the car a short distance gas drips constantly in the secondary bowls. I took it to a "Holley Specialist" and he could not get it right either. I was thinking maybe I had too much gas pressure and it was forcing it back to the back bowls? So I put on a Edelbrock carb and it smoothed everything out. No white smoke and smooth. Now I have a problem when I start it up. It's not getting gas to the carb until I "Prime" it by putting a little gas directly into the carb. Then it will run on it's own once I give it a little gas and let it warm up for about twenty seconds. I put a new pick-up into the tank and also all new lines, new fuel pump, new filter. Anyone have this same problem. Thanks
