A new Pantera will be at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt in September. Google translation:

The Italian sports car maker De Tomaso is at the IAA in 2011 (15th to 25th September) the new version of Pantera ("Panther") before. The athlete is powered by a 600-hp V8, the De Tomaso took over from GM. The body is made of aluminum, the curb weight is said to be under 1,200 kilograms. Prices are not fixed yet. De Tomaso built until the middle car of the year, after the Italian industrial family Rossignolo had bought the naming rights.

I would love to see a new "Pantera" type of sports car enter the marketplace. A sports car that is both exciting to look at and performs like a brute such that it stirs up visceral emotions strong enough to last a lifetime. One that is powerful, yet affordable enough that a teenage boy in high school can say to himself ... one day I'll own one of those cars ... and it isn't a pipe dream that is out of his reach. A new sports car that isn't a status symbol (i.e. like a Ferrari) or a me too car (i.e. like a Corvette) but an individualists car ... like a DeTomaso!

How many of us current owners fit into that description? Smiler

I don't think the new DeTomaso and I see eye to eye on that subject. They don't understand the experience I'm talking about ... they don't care about high school boys and visceral emotions. But Alejandro understood what its like to have a car under your skin ... and what it means to be an individualist.

I own my dream car ... I'm just as passionate about it today as I was when I first saw one at Peyton Lincoln Mercury in 1971. I'm not in the market for a new dream car. I'm still tight within the grip of that visceral emotion. But I think the young guys in high school today deserve their own "Pantera" experience, so yeah bring on the next Pantera!

I've been working on 6018 lately, and I gotta tell you, opening the doors and being hit in the face with that smell .... that Pantera fragrance ... there's just nothing like it. If they bottled that smell I'd wear it for cologne.

Ahh yes George the sweet smell of "Pleather"

The Pantera's aroma is very unique. I remember that same smell of my first, #4060 back in the 70s. And #4134 smells the same.

Maybe to fine leather purists it is cheap. But to me it is part of the unique character I love about Panteras.

I know it is only an artist's picture. But the front of the Panthera is better. More flat, angular and too me carries the original Pantera theme.
Jeff
So, are there plans for this new Pantera to make it to the states? If so, where would I find this info? Thanks, Alex

Interesting, but I have too much blue in my veins to drive a Chevy.

If I wanted a chevy power sportcar I would get a corvette. They really should use the Ford GT engine..!

is that engine still in production ? and used in any other car then the FGT's, now today ???
any idea of price of that Ford engine compared to the Chevy ??? just curious.... Smiler
Ford/Chevy? Always a good topic. I was born and bred with Chevy, and in my younger years I wouldn't buy anything else. But things have evolved. Now I have one Chevy, I have two Chrysler's as the daily drivers, and of course two DeTomasos with Ford Clevelands. I like them all.

I doubt anybody driving a Pantera, old or new, can feel/guess what brand of V8 is powering it.

And now the flame statement: I think we all should be glad DeTomaso made a deal with Ford and not GM/Chevy. Why? Not because the Cleveland was superior to the Chevy, but since the Chevy-following is so much bigger, the car would have been more sought after and therefore more expensive for us to buy. Razzer

When my half-race Cleveland has its final breakdown, if someone like saccrestorations has kit ready, I'd consider a swap to that Chevy engine.
When I say I kinda agree, I agree in concept. In reality, I'd rather see a 5.0 Coyote variant powered car. The Ford GT motor was definitely awesome, but the foundation of the motor is 15 years old. The new 5.0 is the way to go. Add direct injection and twin turbocharging ala Ecoboost tech, (which it was designed to be able to handle) and you have a monster.

I really have nothing against a GM motor, but in my mind it kinda detracts from the history of the car.
I am a car guy. Not a Chevy or Ford guy. I have had lots of Chevy's and Ford's over the years. I buy what I like based on my personal preference and what I think is the best.

You can tell who on this board is a car guy and who is a Ford or Chevy guy. If I felt there was a better Ford engine to retrofit in my Pantera I would have used it. IMO, let me say that again, IMO the LS376 is the best fitting retrofitted motor for the Pantera when you consider the HP per dollar number and the ease of installation.

For me, I don't care about if I devalue my car since I will never sell it. When I'm gone the car will go to my son.

Like I said, if (IMO) there was a better Ford engine to put in my car I would have done it. I say again... to each their own...

I guess i'm not a car guy anymore since I like fords, especially since someone on a forum said so... Thanks for the laugh though.

If ALL you like is Ford's then no, your not a car guy, your a Ford guy.

If you like all kinds of cars like most of us here, then your a car guy. I hope I have cleared things up for you... Wink

Oh, and by the way, I like Ford's as well...

Been following this story for a while now as I'm sure many of you are too. I have daily google alerts set up for all things DeTomaso. Not much out there. The prototype, while not really DeTomasos' looks promising although, I do hope it is visually more exciting than the video suggests. The Frankfurt show is not too far off, I hope it's not just a pipe dream. There is a glut of sports/supercars out there. I hope the Pantera truly is a standout car. The new Aventador certainly is.
I'm a person who like a ford engine with a ford, chevy w/ chevy etc... EX..I don't like see a 33 Ford with a chevy engine or a Ford engine in a Camaro. If a pantera had a chevy when first made OK then a chevy... If the new pantera has a Chevy then so be it... I would like it to stay Ford and if I own the company it would. Most people who do put chevys into Fords do it for one reason... It's cheep to do.

Your Right, I did it because it was INEXPENSIVE to do it. Also the LS motor is arguably, one of the best designed push-rod motors you can get. Where else can you get new car reliability, new car drive-ability, an AWESOME fit, 410lbs and 480 powerhouse to boot.

And I'm with you, I would never put a Chevy in a Ford or a Ford in a Chevy. That is just blasphemy. I would however put an American made V8 in a DeTomaso...
Scott, I have to agree with you. The Pantera is a hybrid in the chassis/engine sense (not in the Toyota Prius sense). It is one manufacturer's chassis with another manufacturer's engine. Sure, Ford owned a controlling interest in DeTomaso for a few years but that doesn't mean the Pantera is a Ford any more than Ferrari's are Fiats, Lamborghini's are Audi's or Bugatti's are VW's. Ford enthusiasts buy Pantera's because they have Ford engines but not all Pantera owners are Ford "guys". At the time I was building a new engine for my Pantera, I decided a Ford based motor was the way to go (Fontana block, SVO heads, IR EFI, etc.). At the time, I felt it was the best option for me. Then Chevy came out with the LS7 and I felt sick that I'd just invested three or four times the cost of an LS7, in my Ford based motor. The LS7 was, and still is, the pinnacle of pushrod engine development. Furthermore, an ECU change, a cam change and free flow exhaust pick-up close to 100 Hp over stock. The most complicated aspect of the swap is dealing with the engine's dry-sump lubrication system. The LS3 has a wet sump, so it's an easier conversion. If I was to do it over, an LS7 conversion is the way I'd go, without a doubt. Naturally, I'd have some custom billet valve covers made with the DeTomaso logo machined into them (just like the ones I have on my Ford motor). Then, there's that cool Kinsler carbon fiber cross-ram intake for the LS motors . . . Anyone want to buy a Fontana aluminum block, C302B head, solid roller cam, IR EFI Pantera motor ? ? ? ! ! !
