I'm reviving this great old thread: Battery choise

I've been looking at buying a small dry-cell battery for my car, like the Dyna Batt, Optima PC690 or the Hawker Genesis G16EP (which apparently all are similar with different badges).

Has anyone got recent experience with any of these batteries in a street-pantera ??

I know some of you want to save weight or go small?
But for me it's old school...Bigger is better as long as it fits! (ad funny comments here) I don't track my Car so I don't care about a little extra weight! I got my Battery a Costco about $75+tax...1000ca, over kill? 3 year full replacement, 8 year prorated. When I bought my Car it had this new Costco Battery, after a little over 9 years I chickened out and bought the same one again! Never been stranded because of the Battery!

Works for me!
i wouldn't bother battery weight on a street car...at least not in the first place before replacing all kind of stuff with aluminium and carbon Smiler.... i have a light weight in my Porsche 928 but this is a track car on which everything is checked/changed on weight ... you can start cold with a extern battery and the light weight is only for a few starts/ emergency start... on a circuit. On the street you have no help on every corner... those modern light weights have enough amps to start but no much amps/hour... so i'm afraid flooding the engine and you need to cranck a little time could already cause a flat...also on a moment you need voltage from the battery for ignition... the alternator isn't helping yet. I had all kind of brands over the years in my cars , one has to be lucky that it is not a "monday" made battery Smiler Myself had a bad experience with a ( expensive ) Optima, best experiences and now using are Bosch closed cells. But then again, it depends also on daily- 2 times a year ? use, equipment for charging etc...
I have been running an Odyssey dry cell PC925 for many years now. I am very happy with it and would never go back to a lead acid battery because I like the weight saving, approx half. My engine always starts immediately, hot or cold, if it didn't, it may be a different story. I would say the PC925 is only just big enough. If you're intending to run one of these battery's an 100 amp (minimum) alternator is essential to keep the fans up to speed in traffic.

Many more important than weight reduction is dropping whatever battery down under the front trunk floor ala the post-'80s Panteras. No need for a battery box- a crossmember between the front lower frame rails braces the suspension and supports the battery. With a little pulling, stock cables fit down under the floor and it allows carrying a little more 'vital debris' on road trips! Of course, icing on the cake is dropping a lightweight battery... I use a 625-amp MR-2 battery from Costco: 22 lbs. Starts our hot-rod engine first turn every time.
