The alternator need to be rewired. Every Pantera ammeter does or did this as far as I know. Mine did, until Tommy Hodges (a 16yr ex Hall machanic who now runs his own excellent shop) fixed this in 15 mins. I eventually changed the ammeter for a volt meter too, but have no bouncing - except for my eyeballs which tend to bounce around in their sockets at speed on our lousy highways!

My ammeter gauge doesn't bounce at all, and never has since I've owned the car. When I bought my car over 3 years ago the seller told me it had a Shunt Resistor from Hall Pantera installed on either the alternator or ammeter. I honestly don't know what it is or how it works, but my gauge doesn't bounce.
Yeah, the ammeter bounces, doesn't hurt a thing. The gages in the Pantera are "un-dampened" which means the needles respond immediately to every small change in the measuring circuit. Everyone is accustomed to heavily dampened gages that operate very slowly.

Supposedly changing to a solid state voltage reg will fix that, as people who have installed new alternators with internal voltage regs seem to verify.

What fun would it be to own a car like the Pantera without any quirks? Might as well drive a Toyota.
