Hi everyone, recently joined as current owner of 8MA1028 based in UK. '69 4 headlight 302 car.
Car is thought to be only current circuit race car in Europe. I want to get this car specked as a FIA homologised Gp4 car. And her's problem. The FIA homologation form states it was homologated with 4 x Weber 45DL carbs, something no-one (including Weber rep in UK) has ever heard of. In fact no-one has heard of the 'DL' family.
The pictures on the homologation form are grainy but they clearly look like an IDA carb which would make sense as Cobras and GT40's would have been using that.
Can anyone shed any light in this? Or know anyone else who has a race Mangusta anywhere else in world?

Thanks all.

Thanks guys for the replies.
Mike, yes seen that video and listened to the sound quite a few times! The hillclimb cars can be modified a lot more, we have to stick to the FIA form to be eligible for certain race series, which is can be a p.i.t.a sometimes.

SciFi I’m out of town until the weekend but will post the form then. The picture although grainy I’m sure is a 48IDA and Jim Inglese has said that the inlet manifold shown only fits the IDA family.

I wanted to do the research first to see if anyone had ever heard of a “DL” carb and then approach them. I’m not sure how flexible / approachable the FIA guys are when it looks like a mistake / typo on the form. In my previous experience with them they are not even when it makes no difference.
V8Jet, like the others, I am unable to find a reference to a 'DL' Weber carb. The homologation paper I have for DeTomaso Mangusta only references the FIA #251 in 1969 & that it was placed in GR-4 at that time, not the fine details. Weber no longer makes carburetors and FIA Gr-4 has been discontinued for decades so I would expect some flexibilty on the part of the FIA in this matter.

FWIW, a few Mangustas have been successfully raced in FIA International competitions without Webers- the last known in 2010 by Swiss driver Heiko Ostmann, who won the 2009 'Classic Endurance Racing Championship' (CER) for 'Sportscars no longer qualified for current Championships'. pdf results enclosed. Good luck-

Thanks for all the help guys particularly the Heiko Ostmann contact, will try and track him down.
FIA 251 is the right form, I can't post the full version as it says file size exceeds limit of 300kb. Here is the link if you want it from FIA Archive:

https://historicdb.fia.com/car/de-tomaso-mangusta

The carbs are detailed page 6 lines 210 -213 and the inlet manifold and carb pictures are on page 13.

I wanted the 4 x Webers just for the hell of it, and the noise!

I'll keep the forum posted if anyone is interested

cheers

Larry
If it's of any use the inlet manifold shown on page 7 has a 120mm bore center line, which is IDA (IDF is 90mm bore center line).

I pulled up the Group 4 Pantera expecting to be able to cross reference to how the Weber carbs were listed/nominated, but to my surprise it appears Weber's were not homologated on a Group 4 Pantera?
