This always looked wrong to me:

While ordering some new window whiskers, I saw this:

So I ordered a pair. Is it as simple as cutting and installing?
Are they glued in place or just pressed?

I have understood it that those things you are showing are for the rubber seal in the door opening, not on the door itself. I installed mine in the door opening and if you cut the new door seal to be the right length, they just insert into the hole in each end of the rubber seal at the top corner and sit there nicely. But maybe I got it all wrong?

It seems you are correct and I misread the diagram.
I have those:

My door weatherstripping doesn't have a corner (or they were installed wrong) but these seem to have a 90 degree corner:

Yes, the correct gasket that attaches to the door should have a molded-in-place 90° corner.
