...And don't forget; if the 'securing clip' was left off of the 'Oil Pump Drive Shaft', and that shaft pulls up with the distributor, it can then slip off and drop down into the oil pan! Then Your 'NightMare' has just begun. Just pull easy and be aware! Also those VERY LARGE Diameter Distributors may not clear the rear window! OR one of those exotic 'HighRise' Intake Manifolds. I do not know about the 'Weber' set-up; but a rig such as 'Dual Quads' will only clear the smallest of diameters. I run the 'Mallory Unilite' Distributor, it is the Smallest Diameter Distributor that I have found. It will even clear my Modified Weiand Dual Quad Manifold, Just Barely!(1/4", just enough to allow turning it to set the timing). Something for You to Think On...

Marlin, Do you run the stock tach? Is a tach adaptor required with the Unilite? I used a Unilite conversion back in the late 70s when they first came out on a Gt500 and don't recall having any issues with the tack, but the Mallory site talks about an adaptor.. Also, I found a pic of one for a Cleveland and it appears that the cap retaining clips are indexed at 3 and 9 o'clock compaired to the advance diaphram, as opposed to the stock ~1 and 7 o'clock positions, seems that would make it much easier to get cap on and off. Comments? I'm just looking for a simple, drop-in electronic replacement distributor with adjustable machanical and vacuum advance. Thanks all.
...Hi John! Asolutely NO problems running the stock Tach! NO adaptor Neccessary! It stays hooked up to the Negative side of the coil. And surprisingly The Tach Runs Very Smooth. No Bouncing or Wavering! Taking the cap off of the Unilite is easy with the clips fully accessable. I have the Vacuum Canister indexed to point towards the firewall where there is the most room to move it during setting timing. The V. Canister IS Fully adjustable and the adjustments can be confirmed while flashing the 'Timing Light' at the Damper Marks and REinstalling the Vacuum Hose back onto the canister Nipple, after You have made an adjustment. Very 'Straight Forward'! The only thing that Concerns me about the Unilite; is the SIZE of the 'Brain' Module, All inside of the Distributor. It is so Small and must get pretty Hot and has to dissapate the heat. I am concious of a probable failure down the road. allthough I have had zero problems with it to date. Over 5000 miles anyway. My point being; the Electronic ignitions that are contained in Larger 'Exterior' Aluminum 'Boxes' are Physically able to deal with the Heat issue, more dependably. My opinion. When I do travel long distances, I carry a spare Distributor and Coil!! Just in Case, You Dig!...
