I know that this is a topic that everyone HATES. While I was in Italy, I was not able to get anywhere on the electrical diagram that we all need, sorry no one seems to recall where it was placed.

On a related line, I am trying to get my wipers to work, and I see that the relay is history. If I look at the series I diagram, it looks like it is the same relay, but I do not think so. Mine has the following code on it, 12533637 6246 Hobs Division.sw
Anyone know anything about these? Can I use any relay or is there something that you have to have in it.

Thanks

Hi Wellis,

You are talking about the two-speed switch or the intermittent interval switch?

In the first case most system work with a 3 or 4 prong relay which are numbered. See if there are numbers on the old relay, like 31/31a/87/49. If so it should be easy to find a replacement.

For the imtermittent rheostat there is an Hella aftermaket kit which I build into my 73 BMW. Looking at how that needed to be wired into my BMW it looked like a direct replaced for the one in my deauville.

Oh, another one for the parts interchange list. My direction indicator relay gave out and I replaced it with a new one from Unipart which was used in almost all mini´s from the 70´s and 80´s. Worked like a charm!
Well, it is more like...I do not know. The wiring around the wiper, is a mess. I think since Dave Adler lived in southern CA, he did not worry about it. The relay is not connected to anything, and looks like it had a small fire. From what I can read, the other numbers are 30/51 86/87/88. But I do not know what those mean.
I have it now bypassed from the reostat on the dash, but the wiper motor does not "park" so I was tring to see if the relay was part of the issue. From what I can gather from Santiago, with the Series II the on off switch was moved from the dash to the turn stalk, but interesting that they did not use the reostat from the stalk.
Thanks

Hi Wellis,
mine is a series 1. I thought the park function was from contacts in the wiper motor (or gearbox) itself. The relay was only for the intermittent variable speed delay. I can recall when the wiper switch on mine did not work (often) the intermittent knob was a way to energise the motor. You could always hear the relay click after the intermittent delay time had passed.

there is a very good technical description of the required switch connections at: lucas wiper connections

A google search reveals parking problems commonly arise from the switch being incorrect. Hopefully some of this will help.
regards
Peter
