Just wondering if you have any ideas

headlights will not go up
I pulled the motor, it works - I have the plastic gears but all is fine - I replaced my micro switches -
I installed everything - I had the lights 3/4 up upon install - I started the car the motor put the lights down - I turned on the lights - did not go up - note the light does not light while down

All fuses look good
should the light slight up even though they will not raise ? could it be my light switch ?

I looked at the light relay but do not see an easy way to get it out -

If I unplug the two wires on each micro switch - would there be an easy way to jump to the battery to get lights to go up - could I jump to battery and use the micro switched so that I do not have the motor lowering after lights are down - I do not want to further hurt anything...

Thanks for the help

You asked about mine and the answer is no. They aren't fixed yet.

I pulled the motor and it was dead, kaput, morto.

I replaced it with one of my window units. The gear drive was disassembled, cleaned and regreased.

The unit was bench tested and worked fine.

When reinstalled the motor and gear bind. It does not raise or lower the headlamp doors.

So to answer your question, I have no information to help you. I still have my own issues.

Sorry.
Woodydog,

My bottom (spare) rocker switch was a single position, whereas the headlight switch is a two position, 1. side lights 2. headlights.

In the first position do you have side lights coming on? If not it maybe the rocker switch. The left and right headlights are on different fuses, hence if none are coming on we can eliminate a fuse isssue.

The headlights light up independent of the motor to raise them, so yes they should be on prior to raising, similarly they will go out before lowering.

If you have had the system apart I assume you are aware there is a hand wheel to manually lower and lift the headlight buckets? (albeit extremely tedious work). By moving them enough to actuate the micro switch you may be able to then determine if something is wrong there. Do you have a multimeter to test for power to the relay? Also by powering the relay on and off you should hear a clicking as the circuit is switched. My original metal housed relay had accumulated condensation and rusted inside.

Good luck

Thanks for the info -
Switch - yes in the middle the parking lights are on - at the far right position - parking lights on but the headlights are not on.

I have a meter... but do not really know what to measure.... I am not very good at electrics.. That is why I just tend to replace the electric componets...

I did replace both Micro switches....
It doesn't sound like our problem is in the rocker switch then.

What about the micro switches you replaced are they adusted correctly i.e. is the lower switch activated before the headlight buckets hit the bump stops? Do the bucket tops look too far in their seating?

Do you have a wiring diagram? SoBil has some great ones split into sections that make checking the wiring easier. Headlamp version attached.

Keep us posted as to how you are progressing.

Julian
