Aussie owner seeking a source and or pictures of the original Goose underhood mat/insulation.   I believe it had a diamond stitched (or embossed?) pattern.

All I have left of mine is very bad pictures of a wrinkled hood..... I suspect that the body shop binned them with the hood remains!!!

Thanks in advance!
Ciao!

Good news, it seems that a couple people might have the mold for this (embossed vinyl) ...bad news, geez, hard to get it. the pattern was used also by Maserati Ghibli spider trunk, Autoepoca.IT showed it on their website (code 4945). When I checked 2 years ago, there wasn't a piece big enough for the Goose hood (available in 70cm x 140cm, but the goose needs a 0.9 x 1.1 meter piece). Time to check in again...there are certainly enough Goose owners who have something altogether wrong or just 52 years old (mine)...Lee

Terry, a small detail I'd like to confirm--something consistent with 8ma1074 when I saw it--was the paint line (!) In a usual world, we'd think the paint line (where the body color stop) coincides with the joint--so that here, the aluminum hood would be painted to its edge, and the black matter paint would stop at the edge. But your car shows the same as 8ma1074, the black paint used inside overlaps onto the aluminum by ~8mm or so...

When I saw that on 8ma1074, I thought it had to be real--no real human would make such a choice (!) https://pantera.infopop.cc/top...for-sale-in-michigan

And thanks, last year I did get a roll of the replacement matting from Autoricambi d'Epoca... I'm a long way from trying to strip off the old one, even after a rather pricey (take a deep breath, about $1k inc shipping) purchase for the new roll...but to look as good as yours still does...Lee

Hi Lee, I just went and took the cover of mine (8MA 1298) to make sure what you are asking.

Anyway, it would make sense to have the paint line at the edge of the metal where it folds over the frame, the only thing is if you look closely at the pictures, the edge of the Alum where it folds over the frame is very uneven.

It has been roughly cut with snips, then folded and crimped to the frame.

The paint line is even at 10mm from the edge of the panel, so I suspect they masked it then sprayed the flat black..

Hope this helps.

Merry Christmas

Terry

Terry, while we have you at it--does the internal front door edge have the masking (almost looks as if from a brush) that 8ma1074 has?

btw, if you hadn't seen it--this was one of the Silvestro documents, showing 8ma1298 as one of the last built (in November 1971...and interestingly, the very last was actually the very first car, the Spider...so here recognizing the sale to a customer..!). So I'd expect a few deviations in the last few days...!

Lee, no mine is all body color, in fact this is the best, most original of all my paint.

And I actually bought a copy of the doc showing which cars were produced in which years from Silvestro.

He probably sold lots of copies.

The last three cars are here in Australia, 1298, 1300 & 1302.

The last 10 cars produced were RHD, which we had to have in Australia.

Best Wishes

Terry

Thanks for the images gents, I really need to get serious about finding a suitable piece of that material, hopefully somewhat below the price of a typical king's ransom.

While not a good option for my car, photos of early cars (< ~ 8MA900?) show a different material that has diamond pattern stitching, vice embossing, PLUS the stitching has a crazy zig-zag pattern to it (see detail photo).  Wondering if this version may still be available - - may be a good option on early cars if the price is right! Regards, Nate
