Hey all,

As most of you already know, I just purchased a '71 p-car #1965.

I was wondering if it is listed at all in the Pantera registry. My father owned it for a short time in 1992 right before he passed away, and I just purchased it back 2 weeks ago.

Just want to know if there is any info out there about her past.

Thanks!

Slow, but loving every second I am with the car. It is incredible. The plates are expired and I need to take her through emissions Roll Eyes

I am going to take her up to coz's house in a few weeks hopefully, and we are going to go through her and do some updating.

She needs news tires also. Should have those in a few weeks.

Thanks for asking pantera someday. Take care!
Long (long) ago Bill Van Ess manually compiled a manuscript to list, by VIN, DeTomaso automobiles. The book was published around 1991 or so. There was a reprint around 1993 (?). Naturally it is out-of-date.
In vegas one year I met Bill, and video-taped his photo album, one car at a time, for my own amusement.
Bill Milburn (in Texas) announced that he will update the registry. (With permission from Van Ess) (I believe Milburn compiled the Cobra registry, so he has experience.)
A data sheet regularily appears in the various POCA (and maybe PI) publications for owners to update (or add) the information on their car(s).
When the next revision will be made available is unknown. I've heard that it is about to become available... and I've heard that for maybe 7-8 years. (honest grin.)
I guess I should send in my update page soon, but without any news and no actual revision date I lost interest.

Various formats have been discussed, like a 3-ring binder to allow update pages to be easily added, versus a complete re-publication every 15-20 years.
Cars currently appear as a "one-liner", but there is a seperate section also in VIN order for details (a paragraph) if the info is provided.
When the update seemed to be a ways off still, I gave up and started to record my own notes on cars. I still collect web advertisements (eBay, car trader, PI, etc...) and now have several hundred cars.

There have been several attempts to make a registry available online. None contain the volume like the Van Ess book.

It is a monumental effort to assemble the data.
Being able to sell a copy for $20 now and then helps defray the cost of assembly, so maybe that is why it has not been computerized.

I considered having a section of my website to support a registry. There are some privacy issues that should be addressed, and other issues.

But nothing has changed during the passage of time, except that the information currently recorded ages and become outdated.

I still have an interest in supporting the result, a registry of DeTomaso automobiles.
Hey RRS,

Yeah, my father purchased it from a gentlemen in Phoenix in 1992 (around May or June). He actually found it through a Pantera shop that did some type of consignment. The gentelmen we bought it from brought my father and I to his house where he showed us the Shelby Cobra he was working on. I am not sure it is was real or a kit.
My father got very ill soon there after, and we had to sell the car in late September/early October 1992. The car was in Lousiana from then until 2 weeks ago when I got her back.

I will definitely contact you when I find out when I will be at Coz's.

Take care!

I think the registry is always been updated by Bill Milburn as time allows. As for constant updates and availablity, Bill Van Ess, who did all the initial hard work, and who fronted 100% of the costs had to wait many years to even break even! That, and it's difficult to get everyone to do it. Years ago hundreds of registry forms were handed out in Vegas, and I bet they didn't even get a dozen back. Then there are those who cry about privacy, like there are Pantera thieves stalking the DeTomaso registry or something.

Wish some one could help him get it on the web where it could be updated as info comes in and people could subscribe to it.
