I'm about to purchase a set of shocks and springs for my car. Was thinking of going with the QA1 DR5855 11 5/8 compressed and 17 extended, the car currently has solid rods so I could get an esimate for the ride height and shock dimensions. Currently the rods are around 13 1/2. My question is which spring rate would you recommend and should I go with a 9" or 10" tall spring.

Thanks,

I just went through this project and from what I know I don’t think you have the correct shock. I’d contact the Pantera vendors and they should be able to fix you up with the correct shock and help you decide on spring rates. Shocks are like wheels, you get the wrong ones and they don’t work for beans. It won’t cost you any more money to get the shocks from one of our vendors and you’ll know you get the correct setup for your car.

The 5855's are the QA1 shock most are using, if you have any doubt you can call QA1's tech line and they'll give you their recommendations.

The DR is single adjustable and the DDR double adjustable, a 'P' suffix denotes the poly bushing or the 'B' the heim end. Summit's pricing will bring the single adjustable in at around $200 per corner with spring, probably cheaper than a Pantera vendor can supply. I know Larry Stock told me that Summit's price was almost his QA1 wholesale price.

You'll need to fabricate some spacers as the QA1 ends are narrower than the oem shock brackets.

Spring choice is an individual matter depending on what ride you want to achieve & ride height etc. 12" springs are normally used, but to lower ride height significantly 10" can work.

I chose 500lb rear and 400lb front spring rates.

Good luck,
Julian
I agree with Mike. I bought my QA1s from Wilkinson. He explained they provided a car to QA1 for testing and fitting. Wilkinson provides everything you need for a plug-n-play. You do not have to fabricate anything. Snce I don't track, I went with single adjustment shocks as Wilkinson recommended. i thought he was giving me honest advice since he told me to go with the less expensive shocks and didn't try to convince me to go with the double adjustable shocks. I also used his standard spring rates (as recommended)for a softer street ride. He spent a considerable amount of time which I appreciated. I think I paid about 1,000 for everything. I am very pleased with the outcome. I did not have to fabricate any parts or run around looking for fixes. That is worth something. I would do it again, the same way.

I hope this helps.

I was thinking about 550 and 350, I believe that would be 50% stiffer than the stock springs. The reason for the 10 inch spring is the shock are 11 5/8 compressed, I figured it's easier to adjust the ride hieght up than it is down. Do you have a suggestion regarding the poly bushing or heim end?

Fabricating a spacer isn't a problem, I feel like everything on this car ends up being fabricated. burn rubber
