Hi

Need some advice...I have problems with my speedometer needle jumping. Got a new one but I have problems removing the original cable fra the ZF side. Wd 40 may times og bending/twisting, won't pop off. Am I doing something wrong here? 20231207_13165020231207_131710

from your photo it appears you have correctly disassembled the cable from the angle drive.

I find the drive cable is often difficult to remove and requires more force than you would think.

your drive cable appears to be very rusty which explains why your WD-40 and manual efforts have so far been unsuccessful.

Study my photos, and make sure you are trying to remove just the cable and not the larger piece sticking out from the angle drive

Some owners think cable-nut tightness has something to do with oil leakage so they use big pliers to really graunch down on the nut. In reality, hand tightening is fine since all sealing is done by 0-rings further inside the die-cast-zinc right angle adapter. Which can be stripped by over-tightening. They are expensive.

As for removing the old cable, it should easily pop off unless someone godzilla-ed the attach nut. Remember, you're replacing and throwing away the old one anyway, so excess care in removing it is not necessary. Use pliers as required. A note: do NOT remove the right-angle adapter by removing the small 10mm bolt nearby. This releases a 4" long hardened steel speedo driveshaft extension, which then drops inside the transmission and can destroy your ZF if not retrieved before driving at all.

In reassembling, if the new assembly seems too short, try re-routing it all the way back to the speedo and use large, gentle bends everywhere. Tight, over-tidy bends and handfuls of tie-wraps are what wears the cable jacket's plastic anti-friction liner inside and causes the drive cable to jump, then break.

I consistently have the same problem with my speedometer cable connecting to the right angle gear. It will not come out. My solution is to takeoff the right angle gear. That takes the stress off of the cable and the gear and then I can get it out.  The right angle gear comes off the transaxle surprisingly easily although it looks like a difficult task  Take your time putting it back in because the threading is counterintuitive
