Another thing to check first, if you haven't already, is the switches. In my experience, those seem to fail the most (and gradually as the contacts get cruddy) — and that includes the newer Bosch units. Those units can at least be dissassembled easily, cleaned up and reassembled.

Good luck!

Or you can go with the Vader window regulator. Pricey but looks like a very nice unit.
Here's the write up from their website.
VADER WINDOW REGULATOR ADVANTAGES

"The Vader Window Regulator installs WITH THE SAME MOUNTING LOCATIONS AND HARDWARE, WITH NO MODIFICATIONS OR HOLES TO DRILL IN YOUR DOOR. THE HARDEST PART OF INSTALLATION IS REMOVING THE OLD ASSEMBLY.

It solves all the problems listed, and more. Raises and lowers the window completely in about 2 seconds. Weighs ½ the original regulator and motor assembly. Uses modern cable technology which opens up extra space for speakers, etc.

NOTE: Although the Vader Regulators have more power than the stock units, they are intended to replace properly working (although slow) stock Pantera window regulators and they may not be able to overcome other problems such as out of alignment door frames or window tracks, improper (too tight) window weather-stripping, or faulty wiring."

I saw the Vader window regulator conversion in person when I was at Quella's shop in Castle Rock, Colorado. Very cool - also drops quite a bit of door weight. If I had the extra coin I too would have done the Vader window conversion myself.

However, with the low price of the Ford Taurus conversion I opted to go that route. Both are good options.
