I have been reading about all the combos for aussie heads and cams. Larry Stock runs the svo cam with aussie heads that sounds like a good combo. Then Dan Jones suggests using a single pattern cam for better results. I am running open chambered heads with port plates and (I assume) a hp2 cam from hall.I noticed a difference in low end with the plates. I have to pull the motor for various reasons, so i thought i would freshen it up. I have aussie heads and would like to have them put on with a good street cam that will run to 5500-6000 with lots of torque and not run out of breath at 5000 rpm. I also like a throaty idle (not wild or smooth). I like comp cams but I'm unsure after hearing about problems with aftermarket cams.

I suggest you call the cam grinder of your choice (or 2, or 3...) on their Tech Lines. These guys make their living with cams while the rest of us may swap an occasional cam every 3 - 4 or so years. The aftermarket cam problem seems to stem from one of the two cam blank manufacturers in the U.S. EVERYONE including Ford, buy unground cam blanks from those guys. An undetermined number got released with bad cam drive gears cut on them. This is not something most are looking form nor is it easy to spot when it does happen. But now that everyone is aware, the number of bummers should drop rapidly. It didn't help that the 351-C takes a unique cam, its a low-production engine, and has been out of production for 25 years....
