I searched all the threads and still have a few questions.

1. Where/how do you disconnect the shifter linkage from the ZF? It looks like if I punch out the pin every thing will line up correctly later. My shifting is perfect now.

2. What are the "tabs"? It looks to me like they are the mounts at the rear of the ZF where the large bolt passes through. I guess if you bend them you can pull the ZF back with minimal engine tilt. Can you unbolt the bracket that connects to the mount at the ZF and NOT bend the tabs?

#6958 is a 74.

Thanks

Yes punching the pin out would be the perferred method if you can get to it. Otherwise disconnect at the spline near that pin area you may be able to mark both sides to line it up later

Yes the tabs need to be bent to remove. If you have bolts on the brackets that mount to the ZF you may be able to avoid bending the tabs on the car. However most have studs that are hard to remove with the bracket in place on the ZF

One thing I did when removing mine was to cat a 1x4 about 16 inches long. Then i reaised the back of the car with a floor jack, chock the front wheels and place the board behind the oil pan, actually on the oil pan bolts. Then when i let the car down......the rear of the motor comes up enough to pull the trans. Better check my measurment of 16" You may need more or less, The idea is to raise the back of the motor about 2 inches. If your board is too lond you will be on a 3 point stance, It is ok for the rear tires to just touch the ground and steady the car. You may even want to side chock the rear.
I unbolted the ZF and lifted on it gently. Then I put short 2x4's between the engine block and the frame. You can see them in the photo. Then I let down on the ZF and it slid right out. Carefull with the engine blocks though. They are not suported by much and can easily be knocked out. Was an easy job:

Posting pictures from your hard drive is easy.

Click on Reply. On that window, click on "Add Attachment?"

Then click on the "Browse" button which appears after clicking "Add Attachment", which should open a new window that will allow you to access your desktop or any file in your computer.

When you locate the photo you want to post, click "OPEN" and it should input data into the "file source" box.

Post the message and the photo should be included in your post.

I took a screen shot of what I see after I click "Browse" on my eMac G4.
