Is there any "Coast to Coast" Pantera events? It would be neat to have an anual Coast to coast event. I was thinking that the event could start on one coast and have a set route to where it could take 7-10 days to get across the USA. Cars would not need to travel the entire distance but wrather meet up and travel in the caravan in their area. Groups could meet up and travel as far as they like. Route could be set up through some nice parts of the country and there could be a stop at a track here or there. Yes? No?

The hot rod crowd has an annual organized event doing that every year. They get local news coverage and a parade route with reserved parking and security. Recommend Route 66 as part of the event. Right past me, of course. I'd go East for a few days for fun. Probably get one of the vendors to participate, with their parts truck...well stocked.
my 2 cents,

the American Motorcyclist Association offers and arranges tours each driving season for its members, with different routes & destinations, exploring different regions of our great country, each year to choose from. A program like that takes a dedicated staff to organize and direct. Somebody from the AMA leads each tour. They charge a decent sum of money for each participant, and the AMA makes money on the whole program. This is far more involved than a "caravan" to Vegas or Carson City.

I wonder if there would be enough interest among Pantera owners to make such an endeavor financially profitable for PI or POCA?

I for one would enjoy such a "Pantera Tour". I'd like to take Jim up on his offer for the pool party. Hang out with Ron on the pool side , tell stories, crack jokes and sip buttery nipples. Jim, you have Baileys & butterscotch schnaaps?

George
Why don't we do this adlib. Lets get the basics set, then see who follows along. If something develops, maybe we could make it more involved next year.

1st, let's pick a time....Next year. Preferably some time when it's not to hot/cold. Spring/fall. And a time when it doesn't conflict with anything. If Vegas is in the spring, what about the fall?

2nd. If everyone interested (by interested I mean interested in traveling on at least one of the daily journeys) I will keep a list of locations, pull out a map and come up with some routes.

I will put together 5-10 routes based on the location of who is willing to go (and excelent local atractions, roads or routes) and set up a vote. I will let everyone who is willing to participate in at least one day of traveling vote for the best route.

I need a good date (I can present the best dates listed for a vote) and I need a list of interested parties. If interest grows I will set a time table for each vote.

What do you think?
...I 'Love' the SouthWest and Deserts! I have been thinking of redoing a trip I took years ago, back in 1971, when I first got back from 'The Land of the 'Little People'. A buddy of mine and I drove My (just purchased, pre-owned) Ford '67 Mustang GTA Fastback with the FE 390 C.I. Engine. We drove down to Santa Monica, and started our journey at the pier where Route 66 Begins. We followed the 'Old' highway East all the way to the Chicago Loop where it ends, at the time, I had a Girlfriend in 'Chi-Town'. What an unforgetable trip we had, the stories would fill a book. I'am FOR any tour you want to put together, a 'Route 66 Revisited' Run, would NOT be a bad theme! Pick it up YOUR Idea and Go with it! If I can be of any help, with anything, let Me know...
Coz, I agree with GP, we need to meet up at your place, real soon. George can drive in from CA and I'll drive over from the other direction in NM. We'll hang with you, take this idea and begin the planning phase. Others will join in, I'm certain. But in the beginning, I'd prefer if it's just us three, so we can have all those "buttery nipples" for ourselves. Us three around your pool and as many "buttery nipples" as your pool area and your neighborhood parking availability can accomodate. Leadership has it's priveleges, so we should be able to hoard the "buttery nipples" for ourselves, in my estimation, at least in the beginning. Ah, the perks and priveleges life offers.... Pantera's and "buttery nipples". Pantera owners have refined and developed the concept of "chick magnets" to the next level.

Thus, I believe I'm soliciting an invitation for George and myself to be invited over. Coz, you inviting us over? A little tech session and strategy development may make the summer on to remember, much more fun!
Ron, you crack me up! Big Grin

I was at a wedding reception once, open bar, sitting at the table with all the seniors (alas, people my age & older). I taught the bar tender how to make a buttery nipple, took it back to the table with me. Lady sitting next to me asked what I was drinking, I explained & let her sample. She went to the bar & got herself one. Well, the fellow on my other side also inquired about my drink, he sampled & then proceeded to the bar for his own buttery nipple. This went on & on. It wasn't too long before the whole senior table was enjoying buttery nipples, about 20 people. The seniors loosened up & showed the kids how to have fun. Conversations became lively & louder. Some decided it was time to dance. Everybody went for at least a second round of buttery nipples. I just leaned back & enjoyed the moment, and had several more buttery nipples, thank god for open bars.

Later my friends

Let's get over to Coz's pool ASAP, George! Coz, I'm goona come over with or without George. GP, you coming? Coz gave me an open invitation two years ago, and I'm negligent for not going. I owe the duty of a good time to myself and I'm negligent for not going. It's time!

Great story GP! Your Pantera road worthy and ready for a short road trip?
I just sent Coz the following e-mail. It's his casa, and it's a holiday weekend, so the family's probably got plans. Maybe Casa Coz has room next weekend.

It's time for me to come on over and see what's going on with Coz in Cozland. I'll help you with any Pantera projects you got going on or whatever. Time to just get out of town, go visit a friend, spend a day or a few seeing what's up and telling a few jokes. Tired of hanging around the house and don't really want to go to the same old lakes around here.

When's a good time to come visit?

My Pantera's still got a bubble or two in the master cylinder. During my brake project, I let the fluid drain out accidentally, but it stops, just a little spooky how far down the brake pedal goes. I'm ready to get out of town and down the road in my Pantera again.
Maybe we should plan a West Coast to somewhere in the Central Time Zone area, and let some of those guys get together over BBQ and plan the route from there.

GP likes jokes, so here's one, kinda off color Aussie joke. Coz has good clean jokes, nicer than mine. Any way:

A bloke's wife went missing while holidaying
>on the Australian coast.He spent a terrible
>night wondering what could have happened to her.
>
>Next morning there was a knock at the door and
>he was confronted by a couple of pretty miserable
>policemen, the old Sarge and a younger Constable.
>
>The Sarge said: "Mate, we have some news for you,
>unfortunately some really bad news, but, some
>good news and maybe some really good news."
>
>"Well," says the bloke, "You'd better let me
>have it both barrels, what's the bad news?"
>
>The Sarge said, "I'm really sorry pal, but
>your wife is dead. Young Bill here found her
>lying at about five fathoms in a little cleft
>in the reef. He got a line around her and we
>pulled her up, but she was dead."
>
>The bloke was naturally pretty distressed to
>hear this and had a bit of a turn. After a
>few minutes he pulled himself together and
>asked what the good news was.
>
>The sarge said, "Well when we got your wife
>up there were quite a few really good sized
>lobsters and a swag of edible crabs in and
>around her swimsuit, so we've brought you your
>share." And he handed the bloke a bag with a
>couple of nice lobbies and four or five crabs
>in it.
>
>"Gee thanks," said the man. "They're bloody
>beaut... I guess it's an ill wind and all that.
>Now, what's the really good news?"
>
>"Well", the Sarge said, "Me and young Bill here
>get off duty at around 11 o'clock and we're
>gonna shoot over there and pull her up again!...
>You fancy comin' along?
>
great punch line Ron, you crack me up.

Being recently freed from my marital obligations, I can laugh at that one in public; you fellows still constrained by the ball & chain, errr...I mean by the bond of matrimony, better keep it under your breath.

Ron, bleed your breaks for God's sake. Marginal brakes...Jeez! Good thing the Pantera is low to the ground, I guess you can always open your door & drag your left foot.

George Wink
Next weekend is fine.
Bring it on !
You too George !
I'll invite some of the guys over from the Phoenix Chapter. Sounds like BBQ & Pool Party Time, I mean Buttery Nipple time !

We can do either. I was thinking of one way for simplicity but if some one runs the entire route they have to get back. We could even vote East west/west east. If we start early a westerly track would be nice. If we run latter, an easterly track would be nice. The main thing is we pick one way, pick a route and spread the word.

I would like to get the word out a little more so we can get more input as to where people live and who wants to go. If people want to e-mail me
A: that they are intersted
B: their location (so I can map it)
c: 1-2 ideas for good places to see/stop in their areas.
d: Any dates that don't work for them

I will keep this info in a spreeadsheet and make a map. We need to make a route that will beinift the most people.

Gary,

I think the 'loop' idea would be best because it would give route exposure to the maximum amount of deTomaso vehicles. If you just run across the top of the US, there is a large contingent in the southern states being left out. If a loop were run, you'd get both coasts and the north and south. Most people will only run legs of the journey, so I think if you give them a leg, they will run it!

I like the book idea that everyone would sign too. A picture of each deTomaso and it's owner would also be nice. Just like passing the book along the route, an SD card for a digital camera can also be forwarded with the book. A 1GB SD card holds 500+ hundred pictures! I'd be happy to do donate one if after everyone downloaded their fill, I get to keep it. I'd also be happy to kick toward it's cost if say PI were to keep it.

I wish we could do it this year!

Michael
All,

I'm game, what ever the plan, I would suggest late Septmeber, early October, isn't that about the time the colors change in New England? We could luck out in that area. A full loop makes the most sense IF there are Pantera owners in both the Northern states - Canada & Southern states wanting to join in.

Coz, I'm honored to be invited to your home, I haven't seen Ron reply. If things are a go for next weekend let me know, I'll do all I can to be there; drive to Phoenix Friday, etc, etc.

Hey Ron, where are you at? Out drumming up business?

George
I have created a directory and an excel file to keep track of where people live so we can come up with a route:

http://www.rc-tech.net/coast2coast/

I can add a web page and more info later. If anyone does not want their first name and location listed in a "public" file such as that and I can keep it here and not in the public directory. I will only use first names (or nick names if you want).

I will create a map and a web page latter.
I'll add it and send it to you as I get it. I will keep the last names and e-mails OFF the one I publish. We know who we are. As I get personal e-mails and last names I can add them to our copy.

I got your e-mail but my my outgoing mail server is not working at the moment. You want me to call you today? During the week?

Hi George,
I started going stir crazy and needed a road trip pretty bad, just to get away from all of life's little worries. So Coz and I started talking Friday morning and I loaded up the Pantera with clothes and tools and took off for Phoenix at 1:30 and got to Coz's house at 8:30, after getting lost for only 45 minutes on the other side of Phoenix, where I was asking the friendly people for directions. It's good to visit friends. Coz's son is on a road trip too, so I got his bedroom. I just told Coz I could come out again, but I needed to hit the road ASAP. Coz wants you to come and visit. He laughed, said I 'blew off George' and came without coordinating with you. Not true. Coz told me to just sign in on his computer and reply, so I'm at his house now. My Panteraa was running at 210 degrees with an outside temperature over 110 degrees, and I have a Fluidyne radiatore, but with the Meriah pusher fans. And that was on these Phoenix freeways. In traffic it was 225 degrees. Maybe you can just bring your radiator project to Coz's house and we'll get your winter project done over here. Gotta sign off, I'll be reading up on what's going on Tuesday.

s/ Ron, the guest and visitor of Coz
George,
Yup, he blew you off and come on out all right. Made him help pull my steering rack last night for the replacement of the bushing I'm doing :-)
Made him work for his keep.
But don't let that stop you from coming out this way next weekend George. Got plenty of room and you're always welcome.
Bring your radiator with you, we'll put in in, have all the tools here. Did mine a couple of months ago, Flyuidyne laydown with sucker fans.

Coz,

soooo.......you've got Ron on the rack? Red Face

I suppose you have an iron maiden waiting for me! Eeker

this weekend would have been a no go for me, I've got guests. I'm glad Ron was able to get away & hang with you, sounds like its just what he needed. There shall always be another time. I could still shoot for next weekend, OR we 3 could shoot for another date when Ron & I can converge at your place in unison. Ron's comments regrding his coolant temps has me wondering if my 30 year old cooling system will hang in there.

So, to prevent completely stealing this thread about the coast to coast tour, Mark & Gary you guys have really picked up the ball & ran with it, thanks, very very much.

Some California routes worthy of consideration, the rim of the world drive; highway 41 north of Atascadero to highway 46 to the James Dean monument at Cholame; the 49'r Highway, highway 1 north of San Francisco. there's only a few thousand other Pantera owners in California, thought I'd beat them to the punch Wink

Happy July 4th to ALL!!!!

To my Canadian friends, a belated happy Canada Day as well!
