I am running an MSD pro-billet distributor, (I think it is part number 8577) Anyway, while I am in the process of getting my carb rebuilt and intake and exhaust jet hot coated, I took out the distributor. When I removed the cap, it was full of corrosion (no the coolant from my earlier post didn't go there ) Smiler Anyway, I called the MSD tech support people and they will rebuild it for about 40% of the cost of a new one. Here is my question, the tech guy said I should drill four 1/4 inch holes in the cap below the level of the rotor and that I should make sure the vent hole on top is open and also drill another hole in the top. Said it would act as a "vortex" and draw air in from the bottom of the distributor cap and exhaust it out the top. Okay, really now the question, anyone ever heard of doing this?

thanks

Never heard of trying to vent a distributor cap, but it sounds like a good way to get moisture into it and cause problems. If you drive the car in the rain or hit a good puddle of water, you might short the distributor out.
I have heard of simular things for stray currents.
I would be in 2 minds to do it.
You would have to go through a puddle from hell to get water in it from driving.
the holes would allow moisture to pass through, and not get trapped in there.

sorry I don't know, i would probably NOT do it.but do make sure the vent hole can breathe.
