I didn't know Greg put Flow Masters on his car too. I run the three chamber FM's on my car. Had I known Greg that you were going the same way I would have sold you mine. Setting off car alarms is one thing, losing my hearing is another. We tried to quite them down by adding washers at the exits. It did help a bit. The wife and don't wear ear plugs anymore. And we can talk to each other and hear what we are saying. We added corvette magnum tips (3inch)too. They do sound good but i'm changing them to a drifferent set before Vegas. Not stock but a good flow as not to lose HP.
Yes ShotGuns, that would look great and Ive heard they work well on many applications. But be aware that SuperTraps work the opposite way; they 'block up' or get quieter as you remove the discs....its the spaced discs that allow the backpressure / spent - gasses to escape, thus sounding louder.- You could even remove them totaly on Track Day.
Have a look at what the factory mostly did on the Grp4 's . - I have a similar system on mine which i think looks just gr8 and very different, apart from sounding totally increadbile. "... totally addictive...." Quote from PIM's immineent and knowledgeble moderator.( sp? ) Pics on PIM's fabulous Photo Gallery soon...tai krige
The Folgers can idea is great! Spray it black and leave the polished tips. ahaha

TerryM- You had flowmasters on your car? Do you happen to have sound clips of that? I'd be interested in hearing what that sounds like. Can someone make a comparison for me: Flowmaster vs. Ansa ..hmm I'm thinking this would be another good threat. Exhaust comparisons

I'd like to hear that too. Can we add sound files to the BB? I have some of Hall Big Bores that are pretty good sounding.
Hi ya SGG & MotorCity.
I have a short clip (AVI ) of my 180 system & Webers being set-up with vacume guages that sounds nice & shows how the end-cans exit the body on both sides; ala the Factory Grp4 manner.
But alas, Iam but a fledgling explorer of the Electronic Ether, plus being totally computor illerate. ( My son has flowen the coop & i've no young kids here with me. Does anyone no how I could post this clip on our wonderful Photo Library or right here ? - If not, i will enlist the help of a pro. Webmaster, - I think they are called, & pop it on forth, or fithwith.
I have Hall big bore headers and these 'stock" mufflers and tips. I cut out most of the baffles and have great flow. I still set off car alarms as I cruise down the blcok, but it sure sounds quiet next to some of the guys I met in Monterey - especially Paul Westberg whose car is in the latest PI Mag.

Larger cans ehhh, sounds like plastic surgery.
If you a just looking for a little more boom in the tone, give your trusted muffler shop the stock system. I had new tubes made that were bigger than stock, we measured to get the biggest tube to fit. I think we were able to match the inlet of the tips at 2.25 inches. I can get you the numbers. For "mufflers" I used resonators, double tipped that are available from "Summit Racing". They are "Pacesetters" by Monza. 2.25 inch inlet with twin 3 inch outlets. $65.69 a pair. I had these welded on and used stock hanger locations and hangers. I love the sound. Not like my old big block Chevy with three inch pipes but a little racier. Noise? At cruising speed it doesn't seem to be any louder than a good GTS system. At idle and with a heavier foot, nice.
My total cost for the system was less than $300 if I recall. It has been 5 or 6 years.
Have fun, it is good noise and won't piss of the neighbors when you "idle" by.
Mitch
Mitch,

Sounds like a perfect plan. Is it legal?

I just measured all and the Hall headers collect to a 2.25" into the muffler and have 2 tips exiting at 2.75". I found the Pace Setter Monza tips you refer to as Part # PSM-95-9917 (single 2.25 in and dual 3" out). See pic - are these them?

And that's all I need - just straight pipes to these tips with resonators and no mufflers? And you say I won't wake the neighbors at idle, or red flag smokey at speed?

That looks like them. I think the part # I have is 95-9918. There are a few variables on the look but essentially you have it. I can look up the exact part number if you run into a bind. I have never had a problem or a complaint from the law or neighbors. My El Camino with a big block and 3" pipes and Flowmasters was noticeabley louder, my wife hated it. Her words are" the Pantera is noticeably quieter, by no means a quiet car but much less than the Elky was." The neighbors used to hear the El Camino start from inside their house, not the Pantera. Maybe it is because I am around Daytona Beach and with bike week a big event the police are more tolerant, but I think you will be fine. You need a muffler shop you can trust. Mine fit first time thankfully. I really like the sound. Also, you can pre fit the exhaust pipe then place the resonator so the tips stick out just right.
Mitch
When I look at that pic I think of a marathon runner trying to breath through a straw. For a heathly motor, I believe it's most important to have the proper size primary header tubes dumping into a proper length ..tuned... collector, not sure I've seen a P-car collector with proper dimensions. From there, we'll have to deal with the space limitations, but it ain't going to happen with anything with a 2.25" ID. While I have no experiance with these, I think we'd have a better chance using something like this along with perferated slip-in tubes (if needed) and additaioal noise abaitment.

John you are forgetting, the exhaust in the stock location has to snake through a little maze of rear suspension parts and even the headers fit into a tight spot. For the ultimate, 180 degree headers would be best and they can be huge, but with a good set of headers
you can get a nice sound along with performance.
The stock exhaust pipes were even smaller.
Mitch
I have a full exhaust system that I had fabricated that I'm getting ready to sell. It consists of big bore headers modified with a better collector with 3" outlet. 3" mandrel bent tubing routed through the suspension to 13" 2 chamber flowmasters with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets. The flowmasters had to be notched to clear the frame but tuck up completely into the stock location.

They rumble very nicely...

I'm not sure of a price I was going to ask but let me know if anyone is interested and I'm sure we can agree on something.

Loud, yes, but it's a deep growl loud. Very nice, IMHO. Restrictive, not really too bad. Most report it to be much better than GTS mufflers, even gutted ones, since it's straight through.
David:

If the Hall headers on your stroker have a 2.25" collector, then you may be choking your motor and, if so, anything you do to decrease the restriction from your mufflers and resonators downstream from that choke point will probably not help. Fred Matsumoto told me that for my 427 Windsor I should have a 3" pipe, so I cut back my collector and welded on a 3" flange. I know opinions on this are like Corvettes (everybody has one), but designing high performance exhausts - starting with the Mind-Train Pantera system - is what Fred does.

Thanks to all you guys for your reply to my exhaust question, and sorry for this late reply. I guess I will have to at least try the entire big bore system when the motor is dynoed, and I guess it would be worthwhile to get hold of another set of headers and fabricate a 3" collector and muffler system and evaluate the difference. I'm sure I could sell either system afterward. Still on the lookout for any pics of similar systems. thanks again, Dave Ferrato
Sorry Gents. I still have the exhaust but haven't taken pictures yet. Between 2 projects I have to get done by next week and the fact that I'm very demorilized and unmotivated about my Pantera because I'm still being jacked around by Kodiak regarding my rims after 1 year 3 months, I just haven't gotten to it.

I PROMISE I will soon!

PS I'll be disclosing my Kodiak Wheels story as soon as I get them in hand. And I may be selling them too as I'm so discusted when I look at them, its nothing but bad memories!!!!! Nearly makes me want to sell the car too!!!!!

Nate
nate, that sounds BAD !!! i'm also waiting on a set of wheels from kodiak, i was told they will ship on 4/21, we will see!......2 weeks has turned into 2 months, but 15 MONTHS !!!! Eeker ......., why didnt you just CANCEL the order?.....lets see how long it takes for the center caps everyone is waiting for, i spoke to daryl yesterday and he said ANOTHER WEEK before caps are ready to ship, VERY NICE wheels, but WAITING REALLY SUCKS!!!!! Frowner.....good luck, i hope it all works out in the end..............DAVE
Nate, don't let a damn vendor spoil your feelings about the car!! Cancel the order and put something else on, there are many choices out there and I would move on to something else. I do understand your feelings however, my brother dropped off his 72 Mach1 at a painter and was told 10 - 12 weeks and it was not delivered for almost 85 weeks. He was at the point where he almost lost interest in it also, but he perservered, put the car together and now has won several best of shows and best Mustangs in a field of over 200 Mustangs.

Hang in there
