I am in the process of identifying all of my dash wires and have three last ones that I can't figure out even after looking at all the schematics. I really appreciate any help. My car is an early 72.

The first are pair of double wires that's seem to be part of the speedometer loom. One pair which is lightblue/white & black/red and is "hot" when the key is on "run". The other pair is violet/gray & red. These wires are shown below:

The last unknown wire is a pinkish wire that runs along the Tachometer loom. It's "hot" all the time:

The pink wire should go to the brake warning light. This light will illuminate when the parking brake lever is pulled, or when the brake pressure shuttle valve is "activated". This pink wire is hot, as the circuit is completed via grounding through the parking brake switch or the brake pressure switch. There should be a gray wire that also attaches to the bulb.

How about the seat belt warning buzzer relay in the upper left of your pic? Your wire colors don't show in the wiring diagram, but it appears to be the only place left.

When I took the dash off, those wires were hung very close to the buzzer. But from the electronic schematics, the buzzer is connected with a single wire on each prong and not paired one like these so I am a little unsure. Also, is this buzzer in the correct location, attached to this grounding stud?

I wish you were right but according to my first pic, shown with the green arrows below, I already have the pink and the gray wire connected to that warning bulb. The pink wire that I need to know about is also bigger.

The schematics are not always accurate. They show that there should be two gray wires connected to that bulb, and you clearly have only one gray wire.

I still suspect that those paired wires connect to the buzzer relay shown in your pic. Was the buzzer working?

As for the larger pink wire, there should be a pink wire feeding the headlight switch that is always hot. Is that one account for?

I my wiring diagram I've only found two pink wires that are hot all the time. One is input to the ignition key, the other is input to the light switch.

My diagram shows that they come from fuses 7 and 8, then meets up into one black wire, and later separates into two pink again. Probably doesn't make sense. But I hope the top paragraph helps you.

Mikael,

Yes, it makes sense. There is a red wire that goes from the battery positive post directly to the ammeter. On the other ammeter terminal (the "load" side), there is a black wire that goes to the alternator stud that is marked "BAT". There are two places along this black wire where four pink wires are tapped (spliced). One tap has two pink wires that go to the headlight switch and the ignition switch (terminal block). The other tap has two pink wires that go to fuses 7 and 8.

In summary, the load side of the ammeter feeds everything except the starter and the "A+" terminal of the voltage regulator.

Me too. I have diagrams for all years, all the newer show a Violet ending in nothing. The older diagram has a Violet going to 65 Direction Indicator Switch. But it's only Hot when ignition is on.

There are also a few always hot Violet wires in the interior light system, where the door jamb contacts create ground. Most Violets go to Interior Light Rocker Switch
OK - just got my dash out & found the two pair of wires in your first photo. They are bundled together with the wires for the speedo and the brake warning light(s) between the pods. In my car, the red/blk & blu/wht pair, also the red & grey pair, are folded back and taped off; they don't go anywhere. This appears to be as original.

I did notice on the schematic are shown two warning lights between the pods, and I have seen some cars that have two. Mine, and I assume yours, has only one. The mystery wires however don't match the schematic as shown for the other warning light. I don't know what these wires might have been intended for. Maybe I'll see something when I get it further apart.

I haven't yet found the large pink wire with the bare terminal on it, I'll look again next chance I get. As for the ground lug on the ignition switch, I believe Mikael is right. Mine has it too, and it was unused.
