Hello everyone,

As expected, when I purchased #5606 a couple of weeks ago, the headlights, tailights and turn signals are marginal, at best, compared to "modern" automobiles. Thank goodness, I have a yellow car that is inherently more visible at night. Smiler

I cleaned all of the lenses today with Meguires "Plastix" and they now shine like they are brand new. However, the illumination of these lenses when the lights are on is still pretty weak.

What would anybody think about putting white reflective tape inside the lense buckets to "pump up" the intensity of the lighting? Before I try this, but I wonder if there might possibly be a heat issue that would develope somehow?

TIA for your opinions.

I've read that others have had limited success spraying any type of chrome paint in the housings, that they don't reflect enough light. But that lining them with chrome tape has worked well.

Here are a few...

This one looks like it will do the trick:

Self-adhesive, Heat Resistant, Foil Tape!

Today I picked up a 15 inch wide by 3 foot long piece of “chrome tape”. I will remove the front turn signal lens cover on one side of the car, cut the tape into strips and attach them to inside back of the light assembly around the turn signal bulb. Hopefully, the chrome tape under the lens will make the turn signal glow brighter. I will re-install the lens and turn the lights on and do a comparison between both sides of the car to see if there is any improvement in the brightness of the turn signal on the side that has received the chrome tape.

Hopefully I will see some improvement. If not, I am only out $15 and some of my time.

If this works, I will do a follow up post with a picture attached of one modified and one non-modified turn signal lens.

Today I installed chrome tape throughout the tail lamp bucket on the left side of the car.

The illumination improvement was good enough to notice by maybe 5% to 10% better.

The chrome tape did cause the reflected light to spread horizontally across the whole tail lamp lens, rather then the light being just concentrated around the light bulb on the non modified side.

Alas, the change was small enough, that I was unable to pick up any differences with a digital camera. Also, the slightest variation in the position and distance of the camera from the tail light has a huge effect on the resulting picture.
I was greatly interested in this, and GREATLY appreciate your time and effort in the conclusion.

Sorry the photos were 'inconclusive' but you know, if the 5-10% means someone sees your brake lights 25 feet sooner at 70mph and subsequently saves your (and the car's behind), it was ALL worth it.

Thanks again. I'm doing mine.
