Could the seats and/or tracks in my '72 Pre-L be installed incorrectly? The drivers seat is much closer to the door sill than the passenger's seat, left of center of the steering wheel. The passengers seat is further away from it's sill, and hits the parking brake console before reaching the end of its rearward travel, it also contacts the center engine covers before going all the way back. The driver's track adjustment lever is on the left (front) side and pivots toward the center of the seat to allow movement. The passenger track lever is on the left as well, but pivots toward the console to release. BTW, the passenger track binds badly. Seems as though most other early cars I see have the driver's seat closer to the console and the passenger's seat further from the console. Could the seats and/or tracks be switched? Thank you

johnk, both of the seats in my late '71 have the adjustment levers next to the console; both are tight against the door sills. Both are difficult to move forward/backward even after cleaning the debris and cold grease off the tracks. I have no idea if mine are in their original positions...but I'm guessing your's may be reversed.

Hey John, the passenger seat always had a problem with hitting the engine cover before it was all the way back. Kirk Evans sells a kit that flattens the firewall behind the pass. seat and gives about 3" more seat travel. The entire kit runs about a grand, it includes all the brackets, a new metal engine cover, and a new firewall fibreglass cover. The quality is first rate.

John,

I'm not near my car to check, but if I recall correctly both my adjustment levers (or non-adjustment levers, whichever way you like to look at it Smiler) swivel toward the outside of the car.

When I removed my seats I recall that each seat was slightly different i.e. handed. This may not have been the case originally, but over 30 years of drivers & passengers getting in and out the car and with all the pressure on the outer bolster it is reasonable to assume that the outer side of the seat cushion will become distorted and flattened out, thus, giving a slightly wider seat stance on the outer side.

If you've reinstalled them opposite that may be the difference you see. I'd just swap 'em around and see what difference it makes, after all its only 8 bolts.
