What are the preferred hose types, silicone or rubber?

Gates green stripe is what most Pantera people recommend. Available from the Vendors in the right diameters and lengths :-)
Nothing wrong with either. During reassembly of 2511 I changed everything to silicone hoses using the correct non-gouging hose clamps.
as has been previously mentioned by others there is a tendency for silicone hoses to weep coolant, and clamps should be re-tightened after some initial use. Others have suggested scuffing the inside of silicone hoses with a coarse sandpaper to enhance sealing
I removed the OEM heater tubes and used two 10 foot pieces of 5/8 inch silicone hose; very easy to work with
I had previously relocated my coolant bottles using the billet bracket sold by vendors and found piping angles had changed. I replumbed using silicone elbows, which are offered in many different angles and sizes

Gates also makes hoses for NAPA
Also recommended to double clamp.
You'll need close to 50 clamps to double clamp everything. Get good ones with the 5/16 hex drive heads and put a dab of never seize on the screw so they'll pull up smoothly.
Here's a good source for really nice lined hose clamps:
