I'm working on the concept of converting from Weber 48ida's to Weber look-a-like throttle bodies.

I want to use my existing Motorcraft electronic distributor and just swap them out probably using a FAST EZ EFI controller. I've run into a snag with the lack of an ignition signal to the FAST.

Some of you have already gone in this direction and obviously must have solved this issue. At the moment I am stumped.

What have you done to fix this? I'm interested in hearing if you will share.

Thanks in advance.

I have version 1.0. It does not have that capability.

It would appear that it is not a simple task to add that wire either? It sounds like the board needs to be redesigned to add it?

Going to the current version is not an alternative either since he is sold out and can't build more due to unavailability of critical components?

I'm searching out other methods.

My wife and I went out to dinner yesterday to celebrate our 37th Anniversary. I asked for water. The waitress said it is out of stock and currently on back order due sometime over the summer. She didn't say of what year though?

Even if you can run your Motorcraft dist. with EFI, do you really want to? One of the benefits of EFI is the ECU's fine resolution timing control and its ability to use multiple coils.

I was not aware that FAST EFI had been purchased by Holley. I thought they were owned by Edelbrock. Maybe people are thinking of Accel EFI. It was purchased by Holley about 5 years ago. Holley still supports Accel EFI products but obviously there's no more development. Holley also owns AEM.

The ignition is not my issue here David. I am not looking to reinvent the wheel.

As far as support from Holley goes...there essentially isn't any now for anything.

They will just put you on hold and never pick up. It's been that way for at least a year that I am aware of.

Regime change? Typical little dick/weasel corporate manipulation as far as I see it.

Doug,

I'm not aware of any EFI manufacturer that's any better, from a tech support standpoint. The basic problem is, every tech support phone call tends to turn into a long, drawn out ordeal. This is because the people calling in don't really understand how it all works and the solutions are rarely simple. Every installation is different too and the tech support people need to know everything about a particular installation before they can begin to diagnose a problem. This all adds up to hour long tech support calls.

That being said, even though I have a Holley ECU, I've never called Holley tech support; not once! They have a fantastic on-line forum, just like this one! Every problem imaginable has been discussed there ad-nausium. Holley's tech people are all over it too, so you can get a quicker answer on the forum than you can by calling. Furthermore, I bought my Holley Dominator from the most knowledgeable EFI guy I've ever met. He knows my installation down to the finest detail and he knows Panteras too. If I have a question, I either e-mail, text message or call him and I usually get an immediate response. I have his mobile phone number too, so I can even reach him at odd hours, if need be.

So that's my advice. Don't buy your EFI system from Jeg's or Summit; buy it from a dealer that provides tech support. The exception is, if you want one of the Sniper self-tuning systems. It seems they either work great out-of-the-box or they're terrible, with not much in-between and not much you can do about it if it doesn't work. Buy those from Jeg's or Summit because if it doesn't work out, you can return it for a full refund; no questions asked!

I apologize for this being somewhat off-topic but felt it should be read in light of David's comments.  Dennis Quella advised me 2 things a couple weeks ago regarding our choice of a Holley Sniper TBI:  (1) You likely want the "Stealth" series in an application like a Pantera to allow more flexibility with air cleaner options, and (2) more specifically you want the Terminator X model that has the module separate from the throttle body.  He said that a lot of the problems other Sniper users are having in applications similar to a Pantera are caused by RF interference that the Terminator X model apparently substantially helps resolve.  Just passing it along in case it helps someone who is considering a Sniper.
