Amerisport sells a kit that makes the hump narrower, allowing the passenger seat to slide further back.

With a 4.6 modular V8 installed you can flatten the firewall completely, no hump.

Windsor motors have a coolant pump with a shorter "snout" available which should allow the hump to be flattened a bit.

Does anybody know how much you can flatten the hump in the bulkhead between the seats?

You know, this is really where the vendors prove their worth. Kirk's conversion is fully thought out, available in various stages of completion, and only requires common sense to install.

To do it yourself will be a trial and error process. To start with, Kirk's kit moves the alternator. Do you want to fabricate your brackets to do this, and then figure out the fan belt length?

Then you have to figure out how much clearance you have with the new alternator location. Perhaps you could affix some sort of clay to the inside of the stock cover, bolt it in place, and then start whittling the steel cover to match the clay guidelines? Or perhaps glue styrofoam to the cover for the same idea?

Then you will have to figure out how to modify the fiberglass portion of the hump. Ever done fiberglass work? Doesn't look too hard, but who knows what evil lurks?

Finally, how about the upholstery?

Bottom line, a do-it-yourself hump reduction seems like quite the project for most of us.

I know if I go this route, I will surely make use of at least some of what Kirk offers, rather than invest the time and sanity to figure it out for myself.

Could anyone educate me on the "Bulkhead Hump". Or do I have to go on x-rated sites?

I see the issue from the picture (I assume you mean the tumor growing out of the bulkhead at the Pax-side?) but is this common to all Pantera's or only to L or pre-L? WHat is it caused by? What is the price of Captain Kirks reduction kit and does it come with a Klingon?
As you might know I am on the look out for a Pantera and want to judge with as much background info as possible.

Thanks,

Michel
This is the hump that protrudes into the passenger compartment between the seats. It's there to accomodate the water pump, alternator, etc. which extends beyond the bulkhead. Due to its location, it limits how far back the passenger seat can go, not to mention just taking up space in general. It's common to all stock Pantera's. At least the L's and Pre-L's. Kirk's kit goes for around $1000 as I recall. He has a website, www.panteracars.com and it appears he is starting another one www.amerisportindustries.com which is under construction.

Could you please send more info and links to the shorter water pump. I'm sure many others would be interested.

Don't know if this is the one Paul is referring to, but these guys offer one set-up.

By the way, they are about twenty minutes across town from me if anyone needs a direct look-see regarding their kit.

I do wonder, having the water flow problems we all have, if this solution - using another pump on an adapter plate - will maintain the needed flow or create more cooling problems while giving us a flatter hump.

I'd rather my passenger has cramped legs than my Pantera sits at home with cooling problems... Wink
